For such a small state, Rhode Island has a lot a quirks,
especially when it comes to food.
Today's newsletter focuses on things that are strictly found in Rhode Island. To those who are not native to Rhode Island, some of these things do take some time getting used to but are all definitely delicious and special in their own right.

Smaller than a standard hot dog,
New York System Hot Weiners
are made with a combination of
veal and pork and served in a
steamed bun. These weiners are
classically topped with mustard,
celery salt, onions, and special
meat sauce.

Autocrat coffee syrup is a coffee
flavored beverage additive that
was created in 1895. It wasn't
until later that it was used to
create coffee milk, another RI
classic, a beverage used to
target children in the 1930s while their parents drank hot coffee.

Pizza strips are sold at bakeries
all throughout the state, and
everyone has their favorite.
Served at room temperature and made of only crust, tomato sauce, and sometimes a sprinkling of
parmesan cheese.

Rhode Island has it's own style
of chowder which is clear
compared to its white
New England counterpart.
This chowder generally contains
onions, and bacon.
