Dear Travel Colleagues,

As they say, there is no time like the present. The „Best of Southwest is a door to some of the most beautiful, luxurious getaways in Southwest Germany. These nine privately owned hotels are destinations in and of themselves offering world-renowned culinary experiences, top spa retreats, wellness treatments, and special experiences that are unique to their locations and surroundings. Some are in the heart of beautiful cities, such as Baden-Baden, Freiburg, Heidelberg while others are deep in the Black Forest or on the banks of Lake Constance. Many of these hotels have a long history and most of them are family-owned, all of them are private. These are places where you are guaranteed to savor your time and create wonderful memories.

Total relaxation, sumptuous meals, sleeping soundly in beautiful surroundings are hallmarks of these pillars of the tourism industry in the state of Baden-Württemberg. They do not rest on their laurels however. They are always seeking to improve their properties and offerings. They also play an important role in their local communities as employers and buyers of local produce and materials. They also bring in tourists and serve as important economic engines in their regions and for the hotel industry in the state. Three of these hotels have been in the news as of late: the famous Brenners Park Hotel & Spa Baden-Baden will soon be finished with its complete renovation, the Europäischer Hof Heidelberg has received top marks from the Michelin judges while the Wald- & Schlosshotel Friedrichsruhe is serving up a new restaurant concept. The Colombi Hotel in Freiburg is serving up delicious delights and has a Christmas menu for guests.

Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa Baden-Baden

Opens New Renovated Hotel Winter 2024

Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa is much more than a luxury hotel. It is a combination of philosophy and beauty, of fitness and health, and of outstanding culinary experiences. And the hotel is set in one of the world's most beautiful destinations: Baden-Baden. The grand hotel on the Lichtentaler Allee is known affectionately as "Brenners" by its regular guests. With a proud 140-year tradition and a reputation that is respected around the world, this legendary hotel has been owned by the Oetker family since 1941.

Since October 2023 the main building of the world famous hotel has been under renovation and this winter looks forward to opening its doors with its traditional balconies and look but at the same time modernizations and innovations. For the first time in the hotel's history, the original stonework on the east side of the main house has been exposed. Although these bricks have never been visible to guests before, they now offer a rare glimpse into the building's architectural past. As part of the modernization, the facade will be restored to restore its full splendor and ensure a fresh, elegant appearance.

Due to the renovation and the partially closed hotel, many of Brenner's employees had the opportunity to spend some time at the sister hotel, the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc. Stefan Naatz, including the head chef at the Wintergarten restaurant.

Wald & Schlosshotel Friedrichsruhe offers a first class spa, golfing school and welcomes a new and creative chef.

Wald- & Schlosshotel Friedrichsruhe Introduces a New Restaurant Concept

Built around 300 years ago in the late Renaissance style and intended as an illustrious guest house for the princely Hohenlohe family. Today the heart of the Wald & Schlosshotel Friedrichsruhe is the hunting lodge. Next to it are another four unique buildings embedded in a 473,000 square foot castle park with historic trees. This five-star superior hotel between Heidelberg and Stuttgart, picturesquely located in the idyllic Hohenlohe region, is more than a luxurious hideaway: it is a gourmet stronghold where the award-winning two-Michelin star chef Boris Rommel pampers his guests with culinary delights in five restaurants.

Chef Rommel has expanded the restaurant concept and is performing some of his culinary art in front of the guests. He tastefully serves dishes such as finger food on self-designed deer antlers, ceramic pillows or a sole carcass. On self-restored carts decorated with gold leaf, the hobby craftsman carves and fillets and then flambés a Crêpe Suzette. At the next table he pours broth made from ox horns. The presentation of the dishes, be it Lothar Eiermann's famous goose liver bundt cake or a classic quail crepinette, surrounded by a pumpkin variation and mirabelle plum jus, is given an incomparably individual and personal touch.

The Wald & Schlosshotel Friedrichsruhe has a well-regarded golf school and is considered one of the best wellness hotels. In an area of 47,000 square feet, the spa offers relaxation and beauty at the highest level, for which it has already received several international awards.
