Township Committee Recognizes Volunteer Fire Companies on  Anniversary of VA Depot Fire
Hillsborough Fire Companies 1, 2, & 3 and Neshanic Fire Company  Receive Recognitions

A fire broke out at the Somerville Industrial Park on Thursday February 12, 2016 in one of the 4 industrial warehouses on site.  The fire quickly escalated into one of the largest fires in memory not only for Hillsborough, but for Somerset County.

It was an extremely difficult fire to contain given the sheer magnitude of the blaze coupled with the challenges presented by the wind and the extreme cold. Hillsborough's firefighters and emergency responders were put to the test in battling the fire.

"We are so thankful and appreciative to all of the Fire Fighters, Hillsborough Township Board of Fire Safety, Police Officers and EMS Squad who worked so hard in spite of brutal conditions at the Somerville Industrial Park fire" stated Mayor Carl Suraci at Tuesday's Township Committee meeting.

On February 4th, Mayor Carl Suraci and Deputy Mayor Gloria McCauley attended the 17th Annual Winter Guard Festival sponsored by the Hillsborough Band Parents Association.

The festival featured performances from more than 40 Guards from New Jersey and Pennsylvania, from Novice to Independent World Class, dance, toss and spin in high-level competition.

With than 2,000 people in attendance, the event was a great success.  The HHS  Winterguard Festival highlight was the 2017 Winterguard Show "Children of the Forest."   Their performance, directed by Micah Gary-Fryer and Pete Ciurczak, was superb!

SwiftReach 911 Official Emergency Notification System
Effective March 1, 2017 Nixle Will No Longer Be Utilized

Committeeman Frank DelCore, Liaison to Public Safety reminded residents SwiftReach 911 is the official emergency notification system for the Township.  "Late last year, the Township entered into an agreement with SwiftReach 911 to provide emergency messaging notifications for the Township," stated Committeeman Frank DelCore.

"A review committee met with the three respondents to the request for quotes and it was determined the SwiftReach 911 met the requirements that the Township was looking for," continued Committeeman DelCore.

The previous contract with Honeywell expired at the end of 2016 and Nixle, which historically was a free service for police notifications, had informed the Township that they would be migrating to a paid service.

"The functionality of SwiftReach 911, ease of use and and overall flexibility, along with a favorable cost component, led to the decision to contract with them," added Hillsborough Police Chief Darren Powell.
