Vivek Mantha Named 2016 Courier News All-Area Boys Volleyball Athlete

Vivek Mantha, a junior at Hillsborough High School and member of the Hillsborough High School Boys Varsity Volleyball was recently recognized by Mayor Frank DelCore and the Township Committee.  

During his Freshman year, Vivek played on the Junior Varsity team and helped lead the team to an undefeated season. Vivek played on the Varsity team as a Sophomore during the 2016 season and was placed on the Skyland Conference First Team and was also named to the Courier News All Area Boys Volleyball Team for that season.

Coach Todd Sudol stated in an interview "He's young, he's hungry, we're giving him the opportunity, and he's got the support from the older guys."

Walko Automotive Recognized for 40 Years of Service

Hillsborough based businesses and organizations with over 25 years of operation within Hillsborough Township are being recognized at Township Committee meetings.  

At the October 25th Township Committee Meeting, Walko Automotive was recognized for their 40 years of service to the Hillsborough community.

Hillsborough High School Hosts 23rd Annual Marching Band Festival

On Saturday, October 8th, Hillsborough High School hosted their 23rd Annual Marching Band Festival.

Deputy Mayor Carl Suraci was on hand to award the Mayor's Trophy to Hunterdon Central High School Marching Red Devils for the performance of their show called "Time".

Boy Scouts Visit Mayor DelCore

Webelos 2 from Pack 1776, working on earning their Build a Better World Badge, visited Mayor DelCore on October 6, 2016 to learn about local government as they work toward their Arrow of Light.  Mayor DelCore taught the scouts about basic government duties and answered questions.  The scouts were also given a tour of the courtroom, where the highlight of their night was taking a turn at banging the gavel.

7th Annual Minute to Win it

The 7th Annual Minute to Win It challenge between The Hillsborough Senior Club and The Montgomery Senior Club was held on October 21st. The event was co-sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of Hillsborough and Montgomery Townships. As usual it was very competitive and entertaining. The seniors really get into the event. The event was also attended by fourth graders from both townships, who served as the cheering section, as well as township officials from Montgomery Township.  Hillsborough's Director of Parks, Recreation and Social Services, Bob Wagner was one of the guest referees in attendance.   Montgomery seniors won this year with a score of 9-6, but a good time was had by all!
6th Annual Cancer Call Out

The 6th Annual Nick Magos Cancer Callout was held on September 8th.  The Cancer Callout raises money throughout the year with their main event being "The CALLOUT."  Each year, the event, n amed after Nick Magos, one of the founders of the Somerset County SWAT Team who passed away from cancer, is run  by SWAT Team members and is designed to benefit families who are in need of assistance due to their battle with cancer and or other life threatening illnesses. 

Steps Together Holds Cornhole Tournament Fundraiser

Steps Together held their annual Cornhole tournament  on Saturday, October 8th  at The Landing Restaurant and Pub.  60 teams participated in the event, raising funds to assist many families in our community who have been impacted by an unexpected medical crisis.

Steps Together is a Hillsborough based volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring the community to pay their blessings forward and support families facing medical crisis. Established in 2013, Steps Together has allocated $310,000 to families in our community.

Hillsborough Halloween Roundup 2016

Hillsborough Township's annual Children's Halloween party was held on Friday, October 28th at the Municipal Complex.  Despite the rainy weather, hundreds of the township's youngest residents came out in costume to join in the festivities. Children toured the Haunted House and were able pick a pumpkin to decorate and take home.

On Saturday, October 29th, dozens of Hillsborough Township residents and their furry friends turned out for the 2nd annual Howl O Ween costume contest and parade at the  Township's  dog park. Prizes were awarded in several categories including Best Costume for Small Dog, Best Costume for Large Dog and Best Group.

Hillsborough - NYC Weekend Bus Survey 

Suburban Transit is currently conducting another survey to determine the level of interest in limited weekend service. If you would use Saturday and / or Sunday bus service to New York City, please go to Suburbans website ( ), click on "Hillsborough Weekend Service Survey" and complete the brief questionnaire.

Tuesday, November 8th is Election Day
Find Your Polling Location and Get Out and Vote!

The General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 8th. Polls are open from  6 am to 8 pm , in accordance with New Jersey State Law. 

Please utilize your sample ballot that is mailed to you in advance of the Election to determine your polling location and voting district.  See the attached picture of the sample ballot with voting district and polling location address.  This information is printed on the front cover of the sample ballot.  Polling locations were changed earlier this year and polling locations do have multiple voting districts.  To expedite your voting experience bring your sample ballot to the polls with you on Election Day.

8th Annual Veterans Day Ceremony 
Friday, November 11, 2016 at 6:30 pm

Hillsborough Township will be hosting its 6th Annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Friday, November 11, 2016 at 6:30 pm at the Garden of Honor, located at the Municipal Complex. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in indoors.

The program will include a ceremony at the Garden of Honor followed by a brief reception for participating Veterans and their spouses.

Members of the public are invited to observe the Garden of Honor ceremonies. All those who attend are asked to bring a canned good item to be donated to the Hillsborough Community Assistance Network. For a list of items most needed, click here

HHS Field Hockey Players Team Up with Safe+Sound Somerset 

The Hillsborough High School Field Hockey Program has rallied together with friends and family to support Safe+Sound Somerset. The Freshmen, Junior Varsity and Varsity teams, asked all fans to donate toiletry and school supplies at all home game played during the month of October. Head Coach  Barrie Foley noted "Our athletes wanted to do something in addition to the annual "Pink Games" which support breast cancer and we decided to do something literally in our front yard, with

Safe+Sound." This organization seeks to empower survivors of domestic abuse and engages the community to break the cycle of violence with programs such as the emergency shelter, transitional housing, adult counseling, legal advocacy and youth programs.

"It was great to be able to help an organization so close to home" said Junior Varsity Captains Lauren Alexander and Stephanie Wickman. Freshman Captains Jena Myers and Emily Fitzgerald added, "As Freshman, we look forward to doing this every year!"

The Morris County Trust for Historic Preservation is sorry to announce that the program on November 5, 2016 about Industrial History has been cancelled, because of speaker illness. The 4th Annual Peter J. Biondi Run-Walk will take place on Sunday November 6th.  For 2016 the race will be a traditional 5K Run and Family Walk.  Start time for the race is 8:30am.  Visit the  RACE and  REGISTRATION pages for more information.
