Rest
"If the day only had three more hours, I wouldn't feel so tired!" Yeah right. Do you know what I would do with those "extra" hours? I would probably over commit and cram more things to do in my never-ending schedule of responsibilities.
We live in an extremely fast paced society that breeds exhaustion and leaves us drained. The Lord offers a complete paradigm shift in our way of living. Look at what He says in Isaiah 40:28-31:
Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
Our Lord offers strength and stamina. We as humans will grow tired and weary, but the Lord's strength never fails or falters. He offers that strength to those who wait for Him.
What does that look like in our lives today?
1)
Come to an end of ourselves:
Jesus does His best work when we are at the end of ourselves and are willing to let Him take it all. We have nothing to lose. We realize that we are tired, weary, burnt-out and used up, with our pride on the floor and truly at an end. When we surrender our lives to Christ we are giving God control. We can't even begin to imagine what God is willing and capable of doing with a yielded heart. His Spirit will be like the wind beneath our wings
2)
Trust His timing:
We are encouraged to wait on the Lord, to focus on the Father and seek His direction. When you are exhausted look around, are you in step with Him or have you attempted your own trail? Take the time to rest when He leads you to, and be renewed by His strength because of His timing.
3)
Be yoked with the Son:
Matthew 11:28 says, "
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." We are invited again to rest in God. Trusting Christ does that, He doesn't just want your labor and weariness--He wants you. Christ offers the yoke as a symbol of discipleship.
The Old and New Testament encourages us to come to an end of ourselves and trust God's strength and timing. What better teacher than Jesus? Being yoked with Him offers us peace and strength. What do we have to lose?

All Church Hike
Saturday, July 2, we'll meet at TCF at 8:00 a.m. to car pool. We'll hike from Woodruff Bridge to Natural Bridge along the Rogue River trail, then back to Woodruff Bridge. It'll take about 3-4 hours round trip. If you only want to hike one way to Natural Bridge, we can have a car shuttle you back to Woodruff Bridge. Bring snacks, water bottles, bug spray, camera, First Aid kit and comfy shoes.
This is a pretty easy to moderate hike with some minor inclines on a well-established trail system. The views are great and temperatures will be cool along the river during the early part of the day with old growth timber providing shade and the river breeze.
