Toth brothers among the best in NETRA hare scrambles

Copake Lake, N.Y. (May 21, 2014) - At just 14 and 16 years old, and only four rounds into the 2014 New England Trail Riders Association (NETRA) Hare Scramble season, Trail Jesters/Edelmann Sales/KTM Racing riders Josh and Zack Toth have already won races, been promoted into higher competition and are in position to contend for a championship.

As Josh Toth's rookie year in the pro class begins, he is definitely exceeding his own and everyone else's expectations. With a pre-season goal set of landing in the top three by the end of the year, plus getting a few overall wins, he is already competing like a seasoned veteran.  It only took three rounds for Josh to win his first pro race of the season.

"The Nutmeg State Hare Scramble is always one of the toughest tracks on the schedule and this year was no different. I was about fourth to the first corner, and made some aggressive passes going into the woods. I stayed in second for about a mile and then took over the lead. It was constant battle between first and second place for the lead. Without realizing it, I passed the leader while he was in the pits with bike issues. Over the next few laps, I switched positions a dozen or more times with two other great racers. The last lap I battled bar to bar until the finish, fighting off an established pro to take my first overall win in the AA/Pro class," said Josh Toth.

His younger brother, the now 14-year-old all-star known as Zack Toth, has been on top since the season began, winning the Overall C class on his Trail Jesters/Edelmann Sales/KTM Racing KTM 250xc in the first two rounds of NETRA racing. His domination and winning results in this class has proven he is ready to compete in the higher - B class.

"I feel pretty confident about doing well in the B 250 class. I have started out this season strong with the help of our sponsors and KTM. I've competed well and am off to an awesome start this season. I hope to win the championship, but my goal is to make it into the A class this year," said Zack Toth.

On Sunday, April 6, in Freetown, Massachusetts, the Spring Challenge was held as the first round of the NETRA season. Being his first time in the AA/Pro class and facing tough competition, Josh Toth finished seventh.  Zack Toth started out the season with his first of two wins in C 250 class.

Tuxedo Ridge was the next round of the season on Sunday, May 4, in Tuxedo, New York. Josh Toth finished higher in the AA/Pro competition this time with a solid fifth place finish. Zack Toth brought home his second win of the season and that which would be the last time he will race in the C class.

"My goals right now are to be consistent and win more races. I'm seeing huge improvements in my riding. My fitness is good. The new KTM 250xc is a perfect fit for me and a huge part of that I believe is suspension. The GTR Suspension set up has helped out a ton this year. I plan to improve on my riding and fitness more and see how it goes," said Josh Toth.

In the third round at the Nutmeg State Hare Scramble, Trail Jesters/Edelmann Sales/KTM Racing rider Zack Toth put on a strong debut in the B 250 class; placing fifth in his first ever competition at this level. The race was on Sunday, May 11, in Eastford, Connecticut. His finish in the top five proves he will be one to watch. His older brother remains first in the pro point standings going into round four.

"Throughout the season I want to have more endurance and do better in the overall if I want to compete with the top riders in my class. I will need to ride by best and train hard but race well too if I want to go even higher," said Zack Toth.

Round four, the Capital Area Trail Riders Association (CATRA) Black Fly Hare Scramble, on Sunday in Fish House, New York, was the latest event before the team goes on a near month long break from competition. Placing third in each of their respective classes, the Toth brothers remain consistent and competitive. Josh Toth remains in the lead in both the overall and AA class. Younger brother Zack, now a B class competitor, is 14th in the standings.

"I have very much enjoyed watching the Toth boys find success so early in the season. Their talent, hard work and desire to compete is why it was so easy to support them. These young men are great people and are proving their ability as racers. We have a several feature sponsors on board now that are making a big impact in our success and we couldn't do it without them. I want to thank Bullet Proof Designs, GTR Suspension, Loud Fuel Company and P3 Composites," said Ross Mauri, Trail Jesters founder.

Next up for the Trail Jesters racing team is round five at the Laurel City Hare Scramble in Winsted, Connecticut, on Sunday, June 29. Since this is Josh and Zack's home club race, they will be working the event per NETRA rules.  We hope to see you there!
