Fair Time is Fun Time!

Come out and support local youth showing and selling their livestock at the Junior Livestock Auction and see their exhibits throughout the fair - in the flower buildings and in the exhibit buildings.

Visit the Master Gardeners in the Flower Building Annex with their annual demo garden, this one featuring edible landscaping

Master Gardeners are at their demo garden 11am to 5pm throughout the fair. New this year, they are giving workshops throughout the day on both weekends. Schedule of MG workshops during the fair.

Legume Cover Crops in Orchards

Topics include cover crop selection, seeding, and relationship to soil fertility and health.
The meeting will be hosted by Mostin Orchards:

Good Fire Alliance BBQ & Potluck

August 3, 12 pm, Spring Lake Regional Park

Come meet neighbors and others interested in cooperative burning and grazing in  Sonoma County. 

People from surrounding counties or other areas are welcome too. 
Please RSVP so we know how many people to anticipate and so you receive follow up information about this event.
What to bring? Sunglasses, sunscreen, a smile, and whatever salad, snack, or drink you'd like to share. Maybe a chair, too.

Wildfire Home Hardening Workshop

August 17, 10am - 4pm, Sebastopol

Audobon Canyon Ranch is collaborating with the County, Good Fire Alliance, local fire protection districts and UCCE to put on this workshop.

Learn how to make your home resilient against wildfire during this hands-on workshop:
  • Receive expert instruction on how to "harden" your home against the next wildfire.
  • Take a tour of a typical home in Sonoma County's W.U.I., with all of its classic issues.
  • Get hands-on experience correcting those issues.
Become a Master Gardener!
If you love to garden, learn about horticulture, and want to share your information with others, the UC Master Gardener Program of Sonoma County offers you the opportunity to learn and to use your knowledge of gardening to serve the community.  

The UC Master Gardener program is a volunteer organization that provides education to home gardeners. Master Gardeners of Sonoma County have a deep commitment to community service and are willing to volunteer as agents of the University of California Cooperative Extension.  

Applications are now being accepted for the 2020 MG Training Class which will launch in January 2020 and run through May 2020.

Tillage & Compost in the Vineyard

August 1, Saralee's Vineyard, Windsor

Sonoma RCD and Jackson Family Wines invite growers to come learn the latest findings from their Healthy Soils Demonstration Project. This field trial, started in 2018 at Saralee's Vineyard, is looking at how tillage frequency and compost application influences soil health and productivity in a working vineyard.

Post Wildfire Land Stewardship Workshop

August 24,  10am at ACR Bouverie Preserve

Get hands on experience on how to steward your land after a severe wildfire event.

Participants will receive expert instruction on improving the ecological health and resiliency of fire-affected land and learn how to do it themselves or how to hire contractors to do the work on their land. 
  • Take a tour of the Bouverie Preserve -a landscape affected by the Nuns fire- and review Bouverie's postfire Forest Management Plan.
  • Get hands-on experience implementing Bouverie Preserve's Forest Management Plan. 
CA Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) for projects funded by CAL FIRE

September 5,  10am at ACR Bouverie Preserve

This class will focus on CEQA processes related to CAL FIRE grant funding and private/ public agencies' legal obligations. It will cover CEQA's purpose, why it applies, basics (authority, summary, key terms, process), lead & responsible agencies, Senate Bill 901, exempt projects, environmental documents, document adequacy and archaeology. While not ideal for complete new-comers to CEQA, it may be appropriate for some. There will be a lot of detail shared and plenty of time for discussion.
