ON THE MOVE
The Jamaica leg of the Japan Caribbean Climate Change Partnership (JCCCP) received the green light in May to implement three pilot demonstration projects valued at US$600 000. The UNDP-implemented project will focus on: enhancing 4H-supported school gardens; promoting climate smart technologies in farms in St Ann and installing or refurbishing water harvesting infrastructure in Clarendon

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Agenda 2030 Action set for acceleration in the Caribbean
A Partnership Framework Agreement endorsed by Ministers of Government from several Caribbean countries will give targeted guidance for accelerating and advancing action on the Sustainable Development Goals in the region, following the successful conclusion of Caribbean Action 2030 on 30 June. UNDP Jamaica had a leading coordinating role. 
Overseas training advances skills & sustainable livelihoods of artisans
Under the ACP-EU Development Minerals Programme, several local artisans were sent to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania for specialized training. Jamaican clay potter, Phillip Supersad shares his experience on 30 May at UNDP.

DEMOCRATIC GOVERNANCE
Parliamentarians explore role in ending HIV/AIDS
  More than 60 Parliamentarians from 14 Caribbean countries met in Kingston to formulate strategic steps to increase advocacy at the highest level for People Living with, and Affected by HIV. The Regional Parliamentarians Forum organized by PANCAP, Pan Caribbean Partnership Against HIV/AIDS was funded by the Global Fund and UNDP.

CLIMATE & DISASTER RESILIENCE
Ensuring Government can function in the event of major disaster
 
The Government of Mexico and the United Nations Development Programme country office in Jamaica collaborated on the development of a Continuity of Governance (COG) Plan for Jamaica which ensures essential functions continue to be performed during or in  the aftermath of a catastrophic emergency.   
Water project in Clarendon hills restores jobs, farms and hope
How six strategically-located standpipes made a difference in Collouden/Brae Head
  Potable water has been restored to a cluster of Northern Clarendon communities through an innovative water harvesting project funded by the Government of Australia combined with technical support from the UNDP-implemented GEF Small Grants Programmme, and contributions from residents. The impact has touched jobs, farms and school attendance.
INNOVATION FOR POVERTY ERADICATION
Danielle's Job App tackles unemployment, Poverty  

Danielle Tait's innovative job preparation and recruitment app loaded with interactive tests and training tools was unearthed during UNDP's inaugural Technology Innovation Competition 2016. Miss Tait returned to Caribbean Action 2030 in June to present her innovation at the Youth Forum of the conference.

COMING IN SEPTEMBER TO JAMAICA:  “The Social Good Summit examines the impact of technology and new media on social good initiatives around the world. Held annually during UN General Assembly Week, the Social Good Summit unites a dynamic community of global leaders and grassroots activists to discuss solutions for the greatest challenges of our time. Our theme, #2030NOW, asks the question, ‘What type of world do I want to live in by the year 2030?’ During the Summit,citizens around the world unite to unlock the potential of technology to make the world a better place.” Details will be posted over the coming weeks.
