President's Message
It was great to see everyone at the meeting last month! Coastal Networks gave a very thorough presentation on internet and HIPPA security. As previously discussed the executive board has approved a marketing campaign for its member dentists. Please make sure we have your correct contact and website information.
We all have a very important month ahead of us. On November 8, we will find out who the next president of the United States will be. Whatever party affiliation you have, we must work together and maintain a strong presence politicly by being a part of organized dentistry. If we don't, ultimately our profession will lose and the government will gain the upper hand in regards to how we conduct our treatment. On November 16, we will have our joint meeting with Pinellas County Dental Association. Dr. Michael Pikos will be giving a presentation on Guided Immediate full arch reconstruction. Be ready to be amazed. This is one you don't want to miss! Also, in an effort to help support the FLA MOM's event in Pensacola on March 24-25, 2017, we will be conducting a 50/50 raffle at the November 16 meeting. Make sure to bring cash to buy tickets!

Warm regards,
Emanuel Kontos

Volunteers Needed - Support our Local Clinics
You can make a difference by volunteering your time.
Community Dental Clinic
We are blessed in our area to have many options to give back to our community through volunteering our skills as dentists. The Community Dental Clinic is a volunteer-driven, free dental clinic that serves the low-income, uninsured/underinsured adults living in upper Pinellas County. The CDC's mission is to provide access to basic dental care to those that need it most. Located in Clearwater, the CDC caters to the preferred schedule and procedures the dental volunteer would like to perform. At present, the clinic offers new patient exams/x-rays, cleanings, fillings and extractions. The CDC is fully-equipped with everything needed to provide these services, and staffs an EFDA clinical coordinator to guide and assist you through your volunteer day. If you would like to volunteer for any upcoming dates please contact the Director, Allison Sapiega at 727-216-6155 or via email at Alison@communitydentalclinlic.net

CMS published a final rule in May 2014 and an interim final rule in May 2015 addressing prescriber enrollment requirements in Medicare. Prescribers must be enrolled in an active status or validly opted out, except in very limited circumstances, in order for their written prescriptions to be covered under Part D. CMS previously announced that enforcement of the prescriber enrollment requirement would begin on February 1, 2017. While CMS is committed to the implementation of the prescriber enrollment requirements, CMS also recognizes the need to minimize the impact on the beneficiary population and ensure beneficiaries have access to the care they need.
To strike this balance, CMS will implement a multifaceted, phased approach that will align full enforcement of the Part D prescriber enrollment requirements with other ongoing CMS initiatives. Full enforcement of the Part D prescriber enrollment requirement will begin on January 1, 2019.
