More Great Progress on the Jane Welty Memorial Garden
On Saturday the 5th, another great group of volunteers braved the scorching temperatures and pounded 1,200 pounds of asphalt onto the patio to repair cracks, improve the drainage, and provide a fully accessible path through the garden. The process involves heating the material with a torch (as if July in Alabama was not hot enough!) and compacting it into place. When we could not keep the machine running, the guys--Wayne, Israel, Brad, Jomai, and David--used heavy hand tools to do the compacting job. It was very hard, hot work. Shake these men's hands when you see them.
On Tuesday, Melodie and Jomai got the first 5 gallons of concrete coating paint sprayed before the weather turned uncooperative. The patio will remain closed while we continue to get coating materials down as the weather permits.

UUCH T-Shirts are HERE!
The newly-designed UUCH T-shirts are HERE, and will be ready to be picked up in the Fellowship Hall after the service on the next several Sundays (until each shirt has “found” its “forever home”!). There will be a few T-shirts for sale, if you missed the ordering deadline.
If you ordered a shirt or shirts, COME ‘N GET ‘EM on Sunday!

Helping Local Hispanic Families
UUCH members and friends have been very generous in our call to support families within the Alabama Hispanic Association (AHA)! You have given $5300 to help the families impacted by the Trump administration policies!
During the month of June, the AHA used our gifts to help one family with their rent and to buy a month’s worth of groceries for another family.
Many thanks to all who contributed!

Circle of Candles
Theresa & Tim Miller lit a candle of Sorrow: "Theresa's sister, Joan, in California was hospitalized last week with a stroke. We hope that there will not be permanent disability from it. She will be going to a rehab facility for a time."
Betsy Applegate lit a candle of Sorrow: "For my step-brother, Wayne Morgan, who passed away last week doing what he loved most—golfing. He was a wonderful man who leaves a strong legacy of love."
Jaybe Kordosky lit a candle of Joy: "Finally got my passport with affirming legal name and gender!"
Laurel Bollinger lit a candle of Joy: "Matthew Bollinger just had his 25th birthday on Saturday!"

Little Food Pantry
Many of our neighbors and many unhoused people visit our LFP frequently. Consider buying a few extra cans of soup or veggies to contribute! For suggestions of what to donate (and what not to donate), check out this list: Pantry Food Items. Remember that many families don’t have the experience or the equipment to handle dried beans, and that the unhoused particularly benefit from cans that don’t require can openers. And see the link above for the new fridge options! A little help from us can go a long way. Please, if you are able to fill it up, note your name in the Sign-Up Genius. Also, you can bring non-perishables to church, as there are baskets. A big thank you to all who contribute!
