Upcoming Service

Reincarnation Means Never Having to Say You’re Dead

Rev. Kalen Fristad

10:45AM, March 15, 2026

In virtually all cultures throughout recorded history, it has been common for many people to believe in reincarnation, which is one way to understand universalism. And, for many compelling reasons, perhaps half of the people in the world today believe in it.

Rev. Kalen Fristad has been a United Methodist minister for more than 40 years. He traveled the country full time with his wife, Darlene, from 2003 to 2006 accepting invitations to speak at churches, proclaiming the hopeful message of universalism. Following then, he served churches in Iowa half time while spending half time on the road. He retired from the parish ministry in 2013 but continues to travel the country speaking on universalism. Over the years he has spoken at more than 270 UU churches and fellowships.

Kalen has written a book on universalism, entitled Destined for Salvation, and a Study Book with the same title. His books, CDs, and DVDs will be available for purchase after the service.

Music News

This Sunday the UUCH Choir will sing The Lesson, with words adapted from the Laurence Dunbar poem of the same name. This anthem brings us a message suggesting that wisdom can be gained through experiences, and that one’s sorrow can be alleviated by comforting others. Flutist Lauren Stiles will join us, providing the sound of the mockingbird mentioned in the poem:

As out of the darkness of hearts and lives

come songs that brim with joy and light,

as out of the gloom of the cypress grove

the mockingbird sings at night.

Choir rehearsal this Sunday is at 12:10, after coffee hour.

Community Protest Song Workshop

Music is a powerful source for unity and healing. In Minnesota, activists taught simple songs to strengthen each other and share their message of solidarity and justice with their neighbors and those who would oppose them. As we look toward the next No Kings Day event on Saturday 3/28, let's gather and learn some songs we can take with us for this protest and those coming after. Gather in the Sanctuary at 6:00PM on Thursday March 26th to learn songs. And afterwards head to the fellowship hall for sign-making and snacks. Materials will be provided. This event is open to the community so bring a friend or four!

Restarting the Worship Arts Team

At our best, worship at UUCH is a collaborative activity. We include diverse voices. We seek wisdom from a variety of sources. We are inspired by each other's questions and stories, and the songs that stir each other's hearts. And to do worship well, we need a team of people who care about our collective worship experience to help guide us. Join Rev. Jaimie for the first meeting of the newly regathered Worship Arts Team on Thursday April 16th at 6:30PM in the Adult RE room. This will be an opportunity to share your feedback about the worship offerings we have now, and to dream together about new possibilities. We will look at the upcoming worship calendar, delegate out some key tasks, and make plans for the future. All are welcome! Reach out to Rev. Jaimie with questions!

Children and Youth Religious Education (CYRE) News

All month long, we are exploring how powerful attention is. This week, we are focusing on the power of paying attention to the present moment. As we do that, we will have the chance to explore some of the ways we can recenter ourselves in a world full of distractions that can knock us off balance. This session also gives us a chance to celebrate the wisdom of Buddhism and the spiritual practice of being in the present moment.

Support your favorite team and help us feed the less fortunate!

UUCH at the Kite Festival

As an outreach service to the Huntsville community, UUCH had a booth at the recent Kite Festival. It was amazing what a difference the presence of our volunteers made!  At the Fair, there were some who came to our booth out of curiosity to find out about our UU faith. There were several who came to our booth and spoke about how they felt alone because they did not fit in at their current congregation. One lady came over to thank us for having our little food pantry and refrigerator. She shared that some weeks those food items generously donated by our church was all she had to feed her family. A high school student stopped by when he saw our Pride flag and brochures. He had a friend, recently come out as gay, who was struggling to find acceptance among his peers and his family. He stayed a while to talk about his concerns for his friend. He said that he was so happy and comforted to learn about our open, welcoming church where his friend could find a haven. There were others putting their names on our email list and many more people the volunteers made a connection with.

Our Beloved Community and the work of our inspiring volunteers is a powerful force for good in this world!  Volunteering enrichs the lives of those who give their time and effort. It is a pathway to connect, understand, and contribute to the world meaningfully. Come join in, volunteer to be part of the change! Small actions—even just a couple of hours at a Kite Festival--make an impact. Spirituality for Elders

How do you understand your essential relations with life? What are your most cherished values? Hopes? Fears? How do they manifest in your behavior?

Folks of a certain age and life experiences, labeled “seniors" or "elders,” have a special developed lifeway that can be seen as "Spirituality." Let’s explore that.

We’ll look at the story of spirituality (religiosity, morality, values) in the human odyssey. Expect a bit of history and reports on "revelations"...no absolute truths here. Maybe some serious hunches. This is not theology, but the practical consideration of lives lived.

Rev. Doak M. Mansfield will facilitate informal seminar-style sessions (six) convening each first and third Monday of March–May.

Ongoing participation is encouraged but not mandatory.

Rev. Doak can be reached at doakmansf@gmail.com

Circle of Candles

Bridgit DeMoor lit a candle of Joy: "Kites, kids, candy, critters, ice cream, clashes of cymbals and drums. All mixed up in a day of community called the Kite Festival! What a wonderful day!"

Little Food Pantry

Many of our neighbors and many unhoused people visit our LFP frequently. Consider buying a few extra cans of soup or veggies to contribute! For suggestions of what to donate (and what not to donate), check out this list: Pantry Food Items. Remember that many families don’t have the experience or the equipment to handle dried beans (dry lentils in particular tend not to be taken!), and that the unhoused particularly benefit from cans that don’t require can openers. See the link above for fridge options! A little help from us can go a long way. Please, if you can fill up the pantry or fridge, note your name in the SignUpGenius so we can maximize efficiency while still feeding people. Also, you can bring non-perishables to church; there are baskets available. A big thank you to all who contribute!

Donate Online

via CDM+ Engage

Online:

Like our other online and mobile giving options, this option is through CDM+ Engage, is secure, and has a good option for "plate" donations as well as "pledge".
