Interim Religious Education Weekend

YOU ARE ALL INVITED!

PLEASE JOIN TOGETHER in a weekend of reflection, goal-setting, community building and worship as we explore UUCH’s lifespan learning programs and shared ministry.

The weekend begins on Saturday, 1.7.23, with a day-long workshop and continues on Sunday with an all-ages worship service entitled “How Could Anyone Ever Tell You?”

Here are the details:

On Saturday, January 7th from 10:00a - 3:00p, we will gather for a day of deep discernment about the challenges the congregation has experienced over the past few years with staffing and programming. Our time together will include creating an awareness of UUCH’s Religious Education Program history; considering ways to evolve a unique lifelong opportunity to explore, reflect, and learn in a nurturing spiritual community; and evaluate leadership and administration changes that support a Shared Ministry model. What changes and challenges over the past few years have blocked your learning program’s mission of ethical, spiritual, and social growth? How do you and your family participate in a way that benefits you and the congregation?

Your voices and visions are an important part of moving your dreams and goals into this new world. No matter how long you’ve been attending, we look forward to being together.

Snacks, refreshments and lunch will be served!

Please RSVP to Sandra Greenfield at [email protected] by the end of today, January 5th.

In faith,

Sandra Greenfield

Share the Plate with Project Share

During the first quarter of 2023, UUCH will be sharing our plate proceeds with the Huntsville Utilities Project Share program. All plate proceeds received from the Thursday before the first Sunday of each month through the Saturday following that first Sunday will be split with Project Share. In January, this includes plate donations received from December 29th through January 7th.

Project Share began in 1988 and represents a unique partnership between Huntsville Utilities and The Salvation Army. Project Share is designed to assist members of our community with their utility bills during the winter months. In addition, a small portion of donations is set aside for the Home Uplift Program, which assists qualified homeowners make their homes more energy efficient to reduce the need for utility assistance.

The program helps utility customers aged 62 and older and/or certified as disabled. Participants must also meet income eligibility guidelines. The Salvation Army screens potential recipients, determines eligibility, and decides who will receive assistance. This past winter, Project Share funds assisted 589 families with the donations received from Huntsville Utilities’ customers and employees.

The need for assistance is now greater than ever due to the increase in the number of households that need utility assistance since the COVID pandemic. Every dollar donated to Project Share goes to those in need of utility assistance. Please consider giving generously to this important program during the first week of the month.

Fellowship Brainstorming Dinner

Everyone (especially new UUs and those thinking about joining UUCH) is welcome to come to a brainstorming potluck dinner hosted by Cam Scales on Thursday, January 26. Arrive around 5:30 pm with dinner to begin at 6pm. We'll chat as we eat and finish up by 8pm. This will be potluck style with Cam providing the pasta, veggie sauce, bread, and drinks. Please use the Signup Genius link here to RSVP so we can have an idea about who is coming but also to round out the menu with meat sauces, salads, and desserts. (Please don't let the word "potluck" be a barrier to attending. You are welcome to sign up as just your own sweet, wonderful selves.)

What will we do this year? That's up to you! We currently go out to dinner once a month. We'll arrange a UUCH night at a Trash Panda game. Want to attend a game night at UUCH, see a movie at church or around town, or go to an event? Hike, bike, walk, jog? Dance, sing, buy some bling, take a fling? All possibilities are open! Please note that at our dinner you are not committing yourself to host, sponsor, facilitate, or plan anything. You are always welcome to provide that support but first let's decide what we want to do and then we'll figure out how and when.
