Upcoming Service

Joy as a Practice

Rachel Rogers

10:45 a.m., Sunday, April 13th, 2025

Rev. KC Ali Bell recently wrote that for Unitarian Universalists, joy is a spiritual practice. In this service we will discuss what it means to pursue and mark moments of joy and how we embrace it, even in times of struggle.

This Sunday Events

Directly After Service

Music News

With two-plus months left in the choir year, NOW would be a great time for you to join the UUCH Choir! No experience is necessary, just join us and sing!

Choir rehearsal this Sunday is at 12:10, after coffee hour.

Nursery Care

Nursery care will be available during the service
from 10:30-12:15.

Little ones can be signed in and out upon arrival and departure in the RE wing.

This Week in Children's

and Youth's Religious Education (CYRE)

This is our second week of exploring The Practice of Joy. Last week, we explored finding joy in foolishness, and this week, we look at how joy can be found in music. We will be taking inspiration from the well-loved and widely used saying, “Make a joyful noise!” And we will most certainly be making a bunch of joyful noises ourselves!

From Rev. Ruth:

If you have lost money through the recent phishing and text scam that hit UUCH members, here are steps you can take:

  1. Contact your credit card company or bank immediately. They may reimburse you.
  2. Contact the Huntsville PD North Precinct at 256-427-7224 and give them our case number: 25H007819, to report this act of fraud and theft.
  3. Go online to the FBI website at ic3.gov to report it.

SAVE THE DATE!

Please plan to attend the Annual Congregational Meeting June 8, 2025 right after church!

Office Hours Week of April 14th

Our office will be closed from April 14th through the 18th, as our office administrator recovers from a scheduled surgery. Thank you for your patience, as communication may be delayed. Reminder that you can reach Rev. Ruth at uurevruth@gmail.com.

Would You Like to Re-claim These Items?

Sometimes people donate physical items to the church. Often these are very helpful for a time. Sometimes things change and after a while those items no longer serve the church. If you donated the stainless steel janitors cart, please let us up if you want it back. If you donated the 14-16 inch ceramic pots that are outside the fellowship hall, thank you--we are finished with them. You can let anyone on the property committee know or message the property committee at property@uuch.org. If these are not claimed in a week they will be donated to Habitat for Humanity.

It Is Time For Plants In Our New Garden -- Do You Have Some To Donate?

The next step for the Jane Welty Memorial Garden is the procurement of plants. We have timed this out really well because both the botanical garden plant sale and the Master Gardeners plant sale are this week. Selection of plants in a public garden with limited space is a complicated process. We want things that grow vigorously but are not invasive. We want things that support pollinators. We want things that don't need too much maintenance work like pruning and deadheading. We want plants that are native but sometimes the improved varieties are more disease-resistant. Most of all we want there to be something pretty all year round. There are pros and cons to each plant selection and they have to work in the amount of light, heat, shade, and water that we can provide.

If you have plants that you would like to donate, please call or text Melodie Brier 256-468-5465. Please do NOT just bring them to the church. Let us figure out how they fit in the space before you start digging.

Child Dedication this Mother's Day

On 5/11/25, Rev. Jaimie will offer Child Dedications during our Mother's Day service. Any families with babies or young children who would like to be blessed and dedicated, please send a note to Minister@uuch.org, and Rev. Jaimie will reach out when she is back from sabbatical.

Upcoming Social Justice Events

Your participation is needed! Below is a list of local social justice events sponsored by groups that UUCH and/or our members support.

Here are some standing opportunities to get engaged with local organizations:

  • First Stop:
  1. Provide a meal for unhoused people (https://firststoporg.galaxydigital.com/)
  2. Donate urgently needed items (https://firststop.org/category/needs-list/)
  3. Other volunteer opportunities (https://firststop.org/ways-to-volunteer/)

For more information about a particular event or to list an event, please email social.justice@uuch.org.

Circle of Candles

Kathy Fisher lit a candle of Joy: "I am so excited to share the following information about my marriage to Doak Mansfield with you all."

Little Food Pantry

Many of our neighbors and many unhoused people visit our LFP frequently. Consider buying a few extra cans of soup or veggies to contribute! For suggestions of what to donate (and what not to donate), check out this list: Pantry Food Items. Remember that many families don’t have the experience or the equipment to handle dried beans, and that the unhoused particularly benefit from cans that don’t require can openers. A little help from us can go a long way Please, if you are able to fill it up, note your name in the Sign-Up Genius. Also, you can bring non- perishables to church, as there are baskets. A big thank you to all who do contribute!
