Dr. Walid Farhat and colleagues from the School of Veterinary Medicine and the Department of Psychology have received a Collaborative Health Sciences Program grant from the Wisconsin Partnership Program (WPP) and the Partnership Education and Research Committee (PERC) for their proposal "Effects of Puberty Blockade on Behavior, Brain, and Reproductive Physiology in an Animal Model". This is a three-year, $600,000 grant.




Dr. David Jarrard is Principle Investigator on a three-year, $1,377,598 Idea Development Award titled "Targeting dysregulated histone-modifying enzymes driving prostate cancer cell survival after androgen deprivation therapy". This grant is funded by the Department of Defense Prostate Cancer Research Program (PCRP).





University of Wisconsin Hospitals, which incudes University Hospital and UW Health East Madison Hospital, are once again ranked as #1 in Wisconsin by U.S. News & World Report. Urology was rated as high performing.

David Jarrard, MD, and Colleagues in the Carbone Cancer Center Awarded Large NIH Grant for Prostate Cancer

University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center has been designated as a Specialized Program of Research Excellence, or SPORE, by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) for research initiatives to advance new prostate cancer treatments.


This highly competitive designation comes with more than $11 million in federal funding to support new and existing research efforts, according to Dr. David Jarrard, surgical oncologist and deputy director, UW Carbone, and professor of urology, University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.


"It's really an exciting time for prostate cancer research here," he said. "This will provide an opportunity to take observations from the laboratories and bring them to our patients as new therapeutics."
