UW Urology at 2025 AUA Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, NV

The 120th American Urological Association (AUA) Annual Meeting begins on Saturday, April 26, in Las Vegas, Nevada. A global event, the AUA Annual Meeting is the largest gathering of urologists worldwide. Event attendees share cutting-edge research and exciting innovations in the field while having “unparalleled access to groundbreaking research, new guidelines, and the latest advances in urologic medicine.”

 

University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health Department of Urology faculty, residents, fellows, and staff will participate in courses, lectures, forums, and panel presentations throughout the four-day conference. Further, 31 abstracts from our team were accepted by the AUA and will be presented at the meeting.

Dr. Stephen Nakada will preside over this year’s AUA Meeting before completing his term as the 2024-2025 AUA President at the close of the event. With a distinguished history of leadership in the urological community, Dr. Nakada has served as president of the North Central Section of the AUA, the Endourology Society, the Society of Academic Urologists, the ROCK Society, and the American Board of Urology. He is also an active member of the American Association of Genitourinary Surgeons and the Clinical Society of Genitourinary Surgeons.

 

Dr. Nakada is honored to be one of the few urologists to have served as both president of the American Board of Urology (2018) and the AUA. He is excited to welcome and connect with colleagues and friends at the 2025 AUA Annual Meeting later this month.

Jason Abel, MD, FACS received Distinguished Alumnus Award at Christopher G. Wood Advances in Urologic Oncology Symposium

Jason Abel, MD, FACS received the Urology Distinguished Alumnus Award as part of the David A. Swanson, MD endowed lecture series at the 3rd Annual University of Texas, Christopher G. Wood Advances in Urologic Oncology Symposium in Austin, Texas.


This award is granted to a former urologic oncology fellow who exemplifies outstanding achievement in their career as a urologic oncologist.

Kristin Ebert, MD awarded Wisconsin Urological Society grant

Kristin Ebert, MD was awarded the 2025 Wisconsin Urological Society Grant of $15,000. This funding will support Dr. Ebert's research evaluating how transitional care planning affects health utilization of patients with spina bifida.

UW Department of Urology named InterStim Center of Excellence

The Department of Urology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health was recently named an InterStim Center of Excellence. This recognition distinguishes UW Urology as the only academic center in Wisconsin with the Center of Excellence designation.

 

The InterStim Center of Excellence, awarded by Medtronic, recognizes physicians and programs who demonstrate exemplary use of the InterStim System as well as a commitment to patient care for those suffering from symptoms associated with overactive bladder, accidental bowel leakage, and urinary incontinence. According to the Urology Care Foundation, as many as 30 percent of men and 40 percent of women in the United States live with overactive bladder symptoms.

 

To date, the department has treated more than 650 patients with sacral neuromodulation (SNM) and continues to lead in the management of overactive bladder with urge incontinence.
