Frank Lin, MD has been selected to serve as a member of the 2024 Society of Urodynamics, Female Pelvic Medicine and Urogenital Reconstruction (SUFU) Fellowship Education Committee. The committee will advise on fellowship education, oversee the "Match" Program, and promote activities that support fellowship educational programs for SUFU.


Vinaya Bhatia, MD has been selected as a 2024-2026 Fellow for the Minority Fellowship Program LEAP (Leadership and Education Advancement Program) for Diverse Scholars through the American Psychological Association and the NIDDK. Through this program, senior researchers and leaders provide career development and mentoring for early scientists who plan to submit a high-quality National Institutes of Health or foundation grant application.




\Kristin Ebert, MD has been appointed the Operations Dyad Lead for the American Family Children's Hospital Surgical Subspecialty Clinics starting July 1, 2024. Dr. Ebert joined our Division of Pediatric Urology last November.



Mikaela Morrison, PA has received the 2024 Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN) APP Travel Scholarship to attend the 2024 Bladder Cancer Think Tank in San Diego, CA in August. This scholarship is given to an APP with an outstanding track record of dedication and contributions to bladder cancer.

Rachael Sherrer, MD is joining Urology Associated, located in Fairhope, AL.

Endourology Fellow, Emily Serrell, MD will be joining the faculty here in the Department of Urology as a member of the Endourology Section.

Urologic Oncology Fellow, Marcelo Bigarella, MD will be joining the faculty at the University of Arkansas Department of Urology in Little Rock.

Summer Research Update

This summer, the Department of Urology has five student scholars in the UW SMPH Shapiro Summer Research Program. The program consists of 8-10 weeks of mentored research conducted by student awardees. The first-year medical students working on research with Urology faculty this summer include:


Ashley Hofstetter: Ashley is working with Dr. Richards on the project "Prediction of BCG treatment response in patients with non-muscle invasive bladder cancer using digital slides and artificial intelligence-enabled platform."


Ayman "Napsy" Isahaku: Napsy will participate in the North Central Section Prospect Clinical Research Program for URiM medical students and is working with Dr. Shapiro.


Mike Plaza: Mike is working with Dr. Abel on the project "Survival and cancer outcomes in bilateral or multifocal T1a renal cell carcinoma treated with surgery."


Lauren Marlatt: Lauren is working with Dr. Abel on the project "Percutaneous tumor ablation method comparison."


Jimmy Radtke: Jimmy is working with Dr. Grimes on the project "Impact of perioperative anticoagulation management on hematuria incidence following holmium laser enucleation of the prostate."
