Notable and Newsworthy

Dr. Margaret Knoedler has been selected as a member of the Research on Calculus Kinetics (ROCK) Society. The ROCK Society's mission is to further the investigation of calculi and reach a better understanding of the basic mechanisms involved. Society membership currently numbers around 100 individuals and is the premiere scientific organization in the US dedicated to the study of kidney stone formation, management, and prevention and includes many of the world's leading stone experts among its members.

Dr. Kyle Richards has been invited to serve on the Scientific Review Group (SRG) for the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN) Patient-Centered Clinical Young Investigator Award for 2024.


Additionally, Dr. Richards participated in a UroToday video lecture to discuss his clinical expertise on the topic "Impact of Agent Orange Exposure on Non-muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer Outcomes." You can view the video lecture here.

Doctors Ali Antar, Margaret Knoedler, Dan Gralnek, Chris Manakas, and Emi Serrell were part of the inaugural meeting of WHOLEP, the Wisconsin Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP) organization.

As part of her participation in the AUA Leadership cohort 2023-2024, Dr. Sarah McAchran and team presented the Capstone Project entitled “Leveraging EMR Templates to Improve Compliance with AUA Guidelines” during the 2024 AUA Advocacy Summit in Washington, DC.


Additionally, she and Dr. Stephen Nakada were part of the Wisconsin Delegation who went to Capitol Hill on Tuesday, February 27 and met with staff of Senator Tammy Baldwin and Senator Ron Johnson, as well as Congresswoman Gwen Moore and Congressman Mark Pocan. 

Urology residents, Drs. Ali Ghasemzadeh and Emily Ellmann both won awards for their presentations at this year's Wisconsin Urological Society (WUS) annual meeting in Lake Geneva. Dr. Ghasemzadeh's presentation was on "Risk Factors for Progression and Survival in mRCC Patients with No Evidence of Disease Following Cytoreductive Nephrectomy with Metastases Directed Therapy", and Dr. Ellmann's was on "Risk Factors for Readmission Following Ureteroscopy and Laser Lithotripsy for Stone Disease: Modern Single Center Experience."

Dr. Frank Lin presented a moderated poster "The Utility of Urodynamics and Cystourethroscopy in Women with Uncomplicated Recurrent Stress Urinary Incontinence" at the Society of Urodynamics, Female Pelvic Medicine & Urogenital Reconstruction in February.

UW Urology at the 2024 American Urological Association (AUA) Annual Meeting

Bruskewitz Distinguished Alumni Reception – May 4, 2024

 

Our annual UW Urology Alumni Reception, the “Bruskewitz Distinguished Alumni Reception”, will take place on Saturday, May 4, 5:30-7:30 PM at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio, Lone Star Salon A. We will have a short program that evening recognizing a distinguished UW alumnus along with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres for our guests.

 

This year’s award recipient is Gyan Pareek, MD, FACS, Chief of the Division of Urology, Co-Director of the Minimally Invasive Urology Institute at Lifespan, and Director of the Kidney Stone Center at The Miriam Hospital. Dr. Pareek is a Professor of Urology, and the Krishnamurthi Family Professor of Urology at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. He is also president of Brown Urology, Inc. Dr. Pareek completed his laparoscopy and endourology fellowship here at the UW in 2005.
