Issue #38 | April 2021
Hello Changemakers - from all of us here at United Way Youth Venture/Changemaking and the Portrait of a Graduate team.

We are still coming down from last week's excitement of the Healthy Minds Virtual Youth Conference: Well-being for Well-doing! What a great event!

On April 14th, MWCC, the United Way of NCM, Barr Foundation and Reliant Foundation sponsored The Heathy Minds; Well Being for Well Doing Virtual Youth Conference. More than 4,000 students and adults from eight communities in NCM registered to attend the event. United Way Youth Venture partnered with 30 area organizations to provide over 60 workshops for students in grades 2-12 that focused on physical, fiscal and mental health. All attendees will be able to access all the workshops for the next six months on the event app, and then permanently on our YouTube channel.

The student reviews and session ratings have continued to be very positive. One theme we saw show up often in the reviews (and one of the main reasons we wanted to put this event together) was just how much students were so glad to connect, engage and be with their peers during the event.

You can watch the main stage activity in the video below!

We wish to thank all of our sponsors, presenters, moderators, volunteers, student attendees, families, teachers and community members who helped make this event such a HUGE success! THANK YOU!

Be sure to click on the sponsor logos, below, to visit their web pages.

As always, we appreciate you and thank you for your continued support! And please click the icons just below to follow us on social media! Thank you! And be sure to mark your calendars for the Spring Showcase/Changemaker Celebration and Portrait of a Graduate Reveal. Happening on June 8 at 6:00pm.

Next Changemaker Camp!

Parent & Teacher Well-Being

COVID has drastically changed what learning looks like and how relationships between school and home are shaped. It has also significantly--and often negatively--affected our individual health.

Join Vipin Thekk and Changemaker friends during this third installment of Changemaker Camps--like our other Camps, this too has three parts with an optional fourth session for feedback and reflection. Created in partnership with the PBS television network and Ashoka, this Changemaker Camp is intended to forge stronger connection between teachers and educators at school (that's you!) and teachers at home--parents.

With the recent changes announced for K-12 school scheduling, the majority of our colleagues are handling yet another period of extreme uncertainty. For this reason we are modifying this third installment of our Changemaker Camp to be just one initial 90 minute session and we are pushing back the start date.

New date coming soon!
