Issue #41 | July 2021
Hello Changemakers - from all of us here at United Way Youth Venture/Changemaking and Portrait of a Graduate. Happy Summer!

It may be mid-summer but that isn't stopping our Venture Teams, Changemaking activities and Portrait of a Graduate efforts. We are bringing Changemaking to rising 4th-graders at Fitchburg Public Schools Summer Camp. A Gardner High School Venture Team just hosted a fundraiser and the Portrait of a Graduate has been finalized and we are planning for the next phase.

We are also working hard to get videos and livestreams of our Healthy Minds Conference put up on our website, so check back for updates on that!

The POG initiative has completed the first phase to visualize High School 2.0. The key activities for this phase included:

  • Examining graduates' readiness for college, career & community.
  • Identifying knowledge and skills all local graduates will attain.
  • Reviewing existing student outcomes frameworks.
  • Developing an action plan for using the portrait of a graduate.

Phase 2, the implementation stage will begin in the fall.

Click here to visit our website for more information about POG.

These happy rising 4th-grade students at Fitchburg Public Schools Summer Camp are learning about Changemaking by participating in team building exercises and practicing some fun engineering challenges using mini marshmallows and toothpicks.

Recent Gardner High School graduate, Luke Powers, leader of the Duf-full of Hope Venture Team, recently held the Team's final fundraiser.

Luke created two themed raffle baskets (BBQ items and lottery tickets) that Price Chopper in Gardner graciously agreed to hold at the Service Counter for people to try their luck, purchase tickets and support local foster youth.

The funds raised will purchase duffel bags of supplies for children in foster care in this community.
