The Georgia House of Representatives’ Page Program

This is an opportunity offering Georgia’s students between 12 and 18 years of age and older to visit the State Capitol and serve with the members of the House of Representatives. This program has become an essential part of the services provided to both the legislators and the public. For over 50 years, the experience of a legislative page has sparked many political aspirations and has been a connective link between elected leaders and Georgia’s young students.

How to apply.

Complete the Page Interest Form   and email or fax it to your Representative’s Administrative Assistant

After your interest form has been reviewed and approved by House Page Staff, you will be contacted by your Representative’s Administrative Assistant confirming which date has been selected for you to page.

Rep. Roger Bruce
January 14, 2019 is the first day of the session. I along with the other members of the General Assembly will take the oath of office. The inauguration for the new Governor will also take place. There will be a lot of changes this session as the gap between Republican and Democratic members in the House has gotten smaller. Hopefully this will mean that the majority party will be more willing to work with less partisanship to get things done.

With a new Governor in place we will see if the State will take a new direction with regard to Medicare expansion , Education, Transportation and other issues that are important to citizens.

I will do my best to keep you informed as things unfold. if you did not get this newsletter directly from me that is because I do not have your email address. If you want to get this info in a timely fashion visit my website and provide your address.

During this session Rep Bruce will introduce legislation to make it easier for you to vote. The Bill allows you to vote at any Precinct within your county. A process similar to early voting, on election day.

A second Bill will prohibit individuals from making guns with 3D printers. These guns can be taken on planes, into schools and other places undetected by metal detecting equipment.

Our state budget is 26 Billion Dollars. Less than 3% of that is spent with minority owned business. I will introduce legislation to create a state agency to oversee state spending policy and to insure equity in the process for all Georgia citizens.

Increasing numbers of women using opioids, methamphetamine, benzodiazepines, marijuana and/ or alcohol during pregnancy are coming to emergency rooms to give birth. Many mothers have not had prenatal care or have had inconsistent prenatal care. The babies are born substance exposed and in need of special services not always available at the hospital of choice. Mothers and babies are separated.

Best Practices : Encourage enrollment on insurance for prenatal care. Link women and other household members to substance use treatment during pregnancy for healthier babies with fewer problems at birth. Provide peer support during pregnancy and substance use treatment. Keep families together while addressing pregnancy, birth and substance use.

Intend to present Legislation that Allows communities to form teams to encourage and support pregnant women and members of their household to seek medical treatment during pregnancy and substance use treatment during pregnancy through voluntary Plans of Safe Care. Allows Family Treatment Courts to accept pregnant women and their partners in an accountability court for intensive case management and services for a healthier pregnancy and birth.
