The Unified Government (UG) offices will be closed this Friday, April 22, 2011 in observance of Spring Holliday. Offices will open for business on Monday, April 25th at 8:00 a.m.
Important Note: District Attorney's Office will also be closed on Friday, April 22, 2011.

Big XII Championship at Wyandotte County Lake |

There will be a concession stand operated by the Wyandotte County Parks Foundation. Boat access at the lake will be closed until 1:00 p.m. There will be a $5 per car admission to help offset the costs of bringing special events like this to the Kansas City, Kansas area.
The University of Kansas Women's rowing team will host the Big 12 Championship at Wyandotte County Lake on Saturday, April 30th.
The Championship will begin about 10:00 a.m. with approximately 350 athletes participating in the regatta competition. The four teams competing for the championship are Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma and Texas. |

American and the Nazi Book Burnings and Our Jewish Past |
Mayor Joe Reardon presented the Wyandotte County Historical Museum with a Proclamation for hosting the exhibition, "Fighting the Fires of Hate" as well as our local history exhibit, "Our Jewish Past" during a special event held this past Sunday.
April 17, 2011 was proclaimed, "Fighting the Fires of Hate and Remembering Our Jewish Past Day." The Museum will host the exhibit from the United States Holocaust Museum beginning tomorrow, April 20, through June 17.
This exhibit, "Fighting the Fires of Hate: America and the Nazi Book Burnings and Our Jewish Past," tells the story of Jews under the Nazis as well as that of the Jewish community in Wyandotte County and the many contributions it made throughout our history.

Public Works Holds Public Meeting for State Ave. Improvements |
The UG Public Works Department hosted an open house last Thursday, April 14 to discuss future improvements to State Avenue between College Parkway and 94th Street.
The public meeting provided an opportunity for citizens to discuss proposed improvements with the engineers and design teams. Bill Heatherman, County Engineer, and other staffers were on hand to answer questions.

UG Development Projects Receives Capstone Awards |
The Kansas City Business Journal will present its 2011 Capstone Awards celebrating crowning achievements in local real estate on Monday, April 25 during a luncheon at the Sheraton Hotel in Overland Park.
The Children's Campus of Kansas City will be recognized with the Community Impact Award and the Plaza at the Speedway will be recognized with the Retail Impact Award.
Congratulations to both developments!

BPU Ethics Commission Meeting |
The Kansas City Board of Public Utilities (BPU) Ethics Commission will meet on Wednesday, April 20th at 5:00 p.m. in Conference Room A of the West Wyandotte Public Library, located at 1737 North 82nd Street in Kansas City, Kansas.
The purpose of the Ethics Commission is to ensure proper implementation of BPU's code of ethics and act as the policy-setting body for ethics issues at the utility.

Ethics Commission Seeking Applicants Deadline May 2nd |
Wyandotte County residents interested in serving on the Ethics Commission should submit a written application to Unified Government Legislative Auditor Tom Wiss by 5pm, May 2.
Members of the Ethics Commission are unpaid, must be a Wyandotte County resident, and must be of good moral standing and reputation. Members serve a four year term. The Commission recommends ways to improve the Unified Government Ethics Code, reviews and reports on any and all violations of the Code of Ethics and renders advisory opinions on questions of ethics, conflicts of interest, and the applicability of the Code of Ethics.

Road Construction |
Based on information provided by both the UG's Public Works Departrment and the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT), the UG is able to provide motorist living in Wyandotte County with a list of roads and highways that are scheduled for construction.
This information can be useful to prepare individuals, commuting to and from work, with early warnings on minor delays. This also encourages drivers to use alternate routes due to lane and ramp closures.
