“Onward and Upward”
Rev. Andrew Millard
10:45 AM
For generations, our Universalist and Unitarian ancestors-in-faith sought to grow the Beloved Community by fostering “the continuity of human development in all worlds, or, the progress of humanity onward and upward forever.” And yet, we know that progress is never linear, that there are always setbacks and disappointments along the way. How do we temper our optimism while still striving for a better world?

A Message From Rev. Jaimie:
Sad News in our UUCH Community
Dear UUCH,
I'm writing to let you know about a tragic loss that has happened in our UUCH community. Dylan Esterling passed away on Thursday, July 29th. Dylan is the son of our wonderful Office Administrator, Holly Hinkle, and he was 27 years old. All of our hearts are with Holly and her family as they grieve this loss. You can click here to read more about Dylan. Email messages of condolence can be sent to Holly at uuch@uuch.org and sympathy cards sent to the office would be welcomed as well. I will update you all if there are other ways we can support Holly and her family in the coming weeks.
In gratitude and care for this loving community,
Rev. Jaimie

Covid Policy Update
In response to rising covid case numbers and changes in CDC guidance, and because we continue to want to protect our children and most vulnerable community members, UUCH has moved back into the red tier of our reopening plan. This means in-person activities like Summer Singers, and Miss Amy and Miss Ashley's Popsicles and Playtime event, have been cancelled for the time being. As new information becomes available, we will continue to update our Covid Policy!

Board Report
July 2021
The UUCH Board met on July 27th for its regularly scheduled meeting.
The Board discussed the current COVID policy and determined that we need to return to “Tier Red” because the number of cases have increased in our area. (See the article on the current policy level in this newsletter). In addition, new CDC recommendations about masks state that if you are in an area with high risks, unvaccinated and vaccinated people should be wearing masks in public; therefore, the UUCH Policy will now require masks at all indoor activities. The UUCH COVID policy is dynamic, and the Board will be monitoring local case numbers to ascertain when we might be able to return to more in-person activities.
The Board approved the nominations for committee chairs for the 2021-22 year:
• Adult RE – Sarah Storm Rody
• Care - Barbara Hit
• Finance - Jonathan Creekmore
• Fellowship - Steve Rittenberg (new committee)
• Hospitality - Jessica Schulz and Teri Thomas
• Membership - Pam Korb
• Property - Paul Wieland and Howard Williams
• Children and Youth RE - Nicole Wright
• Social Justice - Willie Robinson and Naja Shabazz
• Stewardship - Dan McKitrick
• Technology - Shalin Mody and Bryan Walls
• Worship - Bobby Hall
In other business, Rev. Jaimie gave updates on the searches for the staff positions of Director of Religious Education, Music Director, and Tech Assistant.
Bob Locklear gave the Treasurer’s Report and noted that last year pledges came in at an impressive 104% of our goal.
The framing of the new chancel is done, but city inspections must occur before the final flooring is completed. Brad Korb is currently projecting completion in mid-August.
The next scheduled meeting of the UUCH Board will be on August 24th, 2021.
Submitted by the UUCH Board.

Hospitality Committee
Wednesday, August 11 at 7:00 pm
The Hospitality Committee and anyone interested in being involved with Hospitality is invited to meet to discuss plans for the coming church year.
We will meet in person on the church patio. Enter through the R.E. door. We'll wear masks and, once we're outside and distanced and everyone agrees, we can unmask. If it's raining or too hot, we'll meet inside with masks.
See you there!

Chancel Renovation Update
The new chancel area is taking shape! The new chancel framing is complete and rough electrical and HVAC ducting has been run. The city inspector has been called and then the flooring can be installed. The contractor is on track for completion sometime in August!
Note that the chancel area is a hazardous work area, so please stay out of that area if you are at church.

Little Food Pantry
We need signups!!
Please sign up to fill the LFP. It’s odd, but folks aren’t taking lentils or black beans. The canned black beans are being donated to needy Hispanic families.
If you can’t fill a M, W, F or Sunday spot on the sign up genius, you can always drop food by on T, T or Sat. Thanks for everyone who is lending a helping hand.
