"I Am Willing"
Rev. Jaimie Dingus
10:45 AM
Holly Near’s song “I Am Willing” featured in this week’s service, is a beloved anthem about how we hold on to hope and keep going despite our obstacles. It is an anthem of resilience, a promise to persist. How do we build up resilience in traumatic times? How do we stay willing and stay with it as the world continues to change and challenge us?

Transitions
Dear UUCH,
I have such happy news to share with you today! After an in-depth search process, I am delighted to announce two new staff members who will join us, starting at the beginning of September. Each of these candidates brings skills, education, and enthusiasm for our UU community that convince me that they will be wonderful additions to our UUCH staff team.
Here’s a little bit about them:
Director of Religious Education Shonda Green-Fuller: Shonda Green-Fuller was born and raised in Huntsville, Alabama. She has an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice and Theology. She has experience working with children and adults alike in educational settings in the form of College Admissions Officer, Physical Education Aide, Field Training Officer, Basketball and Volleyball Coach, and Bible Study Teacher. Her main objectives are to help those around her reach their full potential and find creative, fun ways to make learning fun. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and playing year-round adult competitive volleyball. Shonda is excited to join our staff at UUCH and is particularly passionate about working in a progressive community that values inclusion.
Music Director Demi VanderWerff: Demi VanderWerff works as an active performer, director, and teacher in the Southeastern region. As well as enjoying a full artistic career, she is deeply devoted to facilitating spiritual worship and communion in an interfaith practice. Demi has a passion for working with singers of all levels to promote a holistic lifestyle and is the founder of NamaSing, a meditative approach to vocal coaching and performance anxiety. A passionate yogi, she also holds her RYT-200 Yoga Alliance Certification specializing in the Baptiste Method. Demi has been engaged with Mississippi Opera, University of Mobile Opera, Ars Nova School of the Arts, Jacksonville Opera Theater, Opera Upper West, Bloomington Cantata Project, The Huntsville Community Chorus, IU Opera, Druid City Opera, and Natchez Festival of Music. Interested in all aspects of arts, Ms. VanderWerff has also been involved in stage-managing and assistant directing through the Natchez Festival of Music, Red River Lyric Opera, and the OK Mozart Festival. She holds her MM from the University of Mobile and served previously on the Voice faculty at Pensacola State College. Demi is looking forward to bringing her skills and creativity to support the music ministry at UUCH.
I am so delighted to have Shonda and Demi on our team and look forward to welcoming them and helping them get acclimated to their new roles in the coming weeks! Also special thanks to our Personnel Committee, Betsy Applegate and Carol Youkey, as well as both of our interview teams for their hard work in this process. This is an exciting time in the life of our congregation!

Care List
This Sunday at Our Circle of Candles:
Pam Korb (she/her) lit a candle of sorrow: Missing our daughter Sarah now that she's moved back to college in N. Carolina.
Paul and Bridgit lit a candle of concern: Paul asks for good thoughts as he has cataract surgery this Wednesday.
Barbara Hitt lit a candle of gratitude: Thanks to the members of the Care Committee who answered the call to provide meals for Holly Hinkle and the Robinson family. Those who helped were Betsy Applegate and Alice Dilbeck, Mitzi Schrimsher, Teri Thomas, Lynda Lamitie, Nancy Stetson, Jessica Schulz, Fran Alexander, Jefflyn Weed, Gail Williams, and Barbara. And much thanks to Mitzi Schrimsher who filled in for me when I was out of the country.
Nick Wilbourn (he/him) lit a candle of gratitude: Thanks to Adult RE (Sarah R.) and Rev. Jaimie for facilitating a great discussion of the 2021 Ware Lecture earlier this week.
Tim and Theresa Miller lit a candle of joy: We had a wonderful visit with daughter Allie and the Florida grandkids. The week before, we visited Theresa’s family in West Virginia and at the 51st class reunion there.
Trao (he/they) lit a candle of joy: had a great day of community organizing yesterday and got to also meet an old college colleague and hang with younger bro
Paul and Bridgit lit a candle of concern: For all those still being hit by COVID-19.
