Huntsville Assistance Program
The Social Justice Committee  has a goal to collect at least 100 items each month for the food pantry.

Please put your nonperishable food items or personal care products donations in the basket in the church foyer for the Huntsville Assistance Program.

They run low on cereal, canned fruit, mac and cheese, peanut butter, instant mashed potatoes, Hamburger Helper-type meals, and canned veggies -- but not green beans or corn.

They are always
grateful for our donations. Thank you for your continued generosity!

"Whirling with the Cosmos"

Rev. Gail Seavey
Lead Minister, First Unitarian Universalist
Church of Nashville (FUUN)

Rev. Seavey's presence at UUCH is part of a time-honored tradition called the "pulpit swap." While she speaks to us here, Rev. Brock will be speaking at FUUN.

Regarding her talk, Rev. Seavey writes: "Sacred dancing may be as old as humankind and is found whenever and wherever people survive. I have been transported by the highly choreographed whirling of Turkish dervishes and Kell freely whirls around at full moon rituals close to home. We will explore what ecstatic dance reveals about the practice of prayer."

Creative Action Day! Children and youth will do a hands-on outreach project.

Nursery care for ages 0-3 will be offered as usual.

For more information, contact Erin Reid, Director of Religious Education, or Steve Rittenberg, CYRE Chair.

CYRE registration is open! All families, new and returning, should register each year.  Click here to register!

returnBuilding Our Future Together!

The 2019 UUCH Annual Budget Drive (ABD) has started with the theme of " Building Our Future Together!"  This year we embark on our search for a new settled minister and build on the wise guidance we have been receiving from our current interim minister, Rev. Ed Brock. What an exciting time for UUCH!

Your support, my support, all of our support together are what make current and future programming possible at the church.

This year, we are introducing Stewardship Celebrations, which are shorter, larger, less formal cottage meetings that are scheduled from late March through early April in the homes of UUCH members. These meetings are here to give you an opportunity to hear directly from Rev. Ed about stewardship, our mission, and our upcoming search for a settled minister. You will also have an opportunity to complete your pledge forms while you enjoy food and fellowship with others who value and support the church.

Whether you are a long-time member or someone who only recently started coming to UUCH, your support is the key to all the great things we as a church can accomplish. The pledge form you'll fill out at the Stewardship Celebration, along with the pledge forms from everyone else, will be the basis for creating the annual operating budget for the 2019-20 church year that starts in July.

SIGN UP this Sunday in the church Fellowship Hall or by following the link above. Several of the meetings are designated as "CF" (child-friendly), so your whole family can attend.  Any special diets will be accommodated so that everyone is welcome. We look forward to seeing each of you at a Stewardship Celebration!

"Wi$e Principles of
Personal Finance and the
Power of Financial Planning"

Do money worries cloud your focus or invade your sleep? Do money fights disrupt your relationships? Do you need help figuring out how to make ends meet? Do you want to get to the place where a missed paycheck is an inconvenience but not a crisis? Do you want to learn how to use money as a tool in living a contented, generous life?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, join us as we look at managing money as a spiritual practice. Through a book study and group discussion, we will look at attitudes about money and learn how to manage it in a way that leaves room for matters of the spirit.

This four-session Adult RE class will continue  every other Friday from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Remaining sessions are  March 15, March 29, and April 12.

Everyone is welcome, so bring your friends! Parents, bring your teenagers! Married couples and life partners are strongly encouraged to attend together. Childcare will be provided.  Copies of the book and workbook are available courtesy of the Social Justice and Adult RE Committees.

Sign up in the Fellowship Hall, or email Michelle Clark for more information . Facilitators Bob Locklear and Michelle Clark look forward to seeing you there!

Social Saturday on March 23
Let's Do Lunch!

Our next Social Saturday will be held on March 23, from 11:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. This event is a casual social time for people to get together, share a meal, and chat - maybe find out that they share a common interest or need that can be met by another. Anything can happen when UUs get together! So plan to come and join the group. It is a both a potluck and a brown bag, so your choice to bring a dish to share, or keep it simple and brown-bag it.

Everyone is welcome, but seniors and new members are especially encouraged to attend, meet some folks, and feel like a part of our UUCH family. We hope to see you on March 23!

Are You Ready to
Become a Member?

If you've been attending UUCH long enough to know that this church community feels like your spiritual home, you may be ready to take the next step and become a member. On an upcoming Sunday, we will welcome new members as they "sign the book" and officially join our church.

If you are ready to become a member or would like to find out more about the process, please contact Membership Chair Pam Korb by March 24 .

RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF MEMBERSHIP
Because we are a democratic community, members are collectively vested with responsibility for the congregation. Members may vote at all congregational meetings, be elected to the governing Board, be appointed as committee chairs, and participate in all activities of the congregation.

Because we are a covenanted congregation, members have certain responsibilities to the congregation and to each other. These responsibilities are best fulfilled by:
  • Regular attendance at worship
  • Voting at congregational meetings
  • Making financial contributions
  • Contributing time and talent
  • Spiritual growth and development

Care List

This Sunday, March 10, 2019,  at our Circle of Candles:

Susan Coddington lit a candle of sorrow: My mom, Judith Esslinger, died this morning. Her motto was "A day without laughter is a day wasted." I refuse to waste a single day. She will be missed.

Amanda Schuber lit a candle of sorrow: Saturday marked 9 years since my dear friend, Chris Trace, took his life. I miss him still and honor his memory everyday!

Jefflyn and Bob Weed lit a candle of sorrow: Please keep Cheri Smith in your thoughts and prayers as she continues to recover from a series of strokes and prepares for treatment of some cardiac problems.

Amanda Schuber lit a candle of joy: A HUGE thank you to our Property Committee, especially Jeanne, Tim, Brad, and Wanda for all of their hard work on the improvements in the RE wing. Also, to the marvelous team effort of last week's flooding cleanup. We are an awesome community!

Nancy Finley lit a candle: For Susan Coddington, your church loves you.
