Awareness Through Movement
Fridays at 10:00 a.m.

The Feldenkrais Method of Awareness Through Movement class will start again with a series of lessons focused on improving balance and breathing by improving the use of the muscles that support the hips and lower back. These lessons will use small, gentle movement, imagination, and sensing. Mats will be provided, but feel free to bring anything you might need to make yourself comfortable lying on the floor. If you are unable to lie on the floor, please let us know, and we will make an accommodation for you.

This Adult RE class, led by Sally Locklear, is drop-in, with no experience necessary. Everyone is welcome.

We will meet each Friday at 10:00 a.m., from September 28 to December 14.

UUCH Adult Religious Education focuses on the whole spiritual person, mentally and physically, so come join us!

For further information, contact Adult RE chair Nancy Finley

Are You Ready to
Become a Member?

If you've been attending UUCH long enough to know that this church community feels like your spiritual home, then you may be ready to take the next step and become a member. On an upcoming Sunday in early November, we will welcome new members as they "sign the book" and officially join our church.

If you are ready to become a member or would like to find out more about the process, please contact Pam Korb by October 31.

RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF MEMBERSHIP

Because we are a democratic community, members are collectively vested with responsibility for the congregation. Members may vote at all congregational meetings, be elected to the governing board, be appointed as committee chairs, and participate in all activities of the congregation.

Because we are a covenanted congregation, members have certain responsibilities to the congregation and to each other. These responsibilities are best fulfilled by:
  • Regular attendance at worship
  • Voting at congregational meetings
  • Making financial contributions
  • Contributing time and talent
  • Spiritual growth and development

" Why Do We Gather Here?"
(Part 2)
Reverend Ed Brock

This will be the second sermon in a series exploring the question  Why do we gather here?

In the first sermon, I focused on the formation of personal beliefs. In this second sermon, I will focus on relationships. Specifically, I will explore what kind of relationships makes a church a sanctuary.

It is no secret that there is a lot of strife and acrimony in the larger society. Nor is it a secret that a lot of people in our society, though immersed in various forms of social media that are supposed to make us all more connected, feel isolated, alone, and without true community. Why is this? What are the signs of genuine community, and how do we sustain healthy and nurturing relationships?

I will explore these themes as I discuss the ways we become a sanctuary for genuine relationship.
This Sunday in Children and Youth        Religious Education (CYRE)

Children and youth will continue lessons on the theme of INreach/OUTreach, exploring how to make a wonderful welcome at church and how to extend that welcome in service to our community and world.

For more information, contact Erin Reid, Director of Religious Education, or Steve Rittenberg, CYRE Chair.

CYRE registration is open! All families, new and returning, should register each year. Click here to register!
Go, UUCH, Go!

We've formed a team, and we have a date; now all we need are some teammates!

This year the Survivors' Walk will begin at 8:00 a.m. The race will start immediately after.

Proceeds from the 2018 Ribbon Run will be used to purchase additional mammography diagnostic equipment.

To register as a team member, go to hhfi.convio.net and search for Teams. Then enter Unitarian Universalist Church of Huntsville to find our team.

Support your fellow UUs who have already been touched by this and other awful diseases. Register now, and start stretching. All abilities are welcome!

The Creative Choir  Stole-A-Thon

The Creative Choir invites you to join them for two Stole-A-Thons on October 20 and November 3!

The expectation is that in two sessions we can complete 30 formal choir stoles for our solstice celebrations, which will occur on Wednesday, December 19. If you are not in the choir but have sewing skills, you are welcome to join the creativity!

We made great progress this summer and enjoyed getting to know one another as we made the musical note/rainbow pride stoles seen during performances this fall.

Lunch will be provided on the October 20 session, which will be from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

Tea, coffee, and light snacks will be provided on the November 3 session, which will be from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

Bring sewing machines, cutting boards, scissors, irons, and ironing boards. Black thread, fabric, interfacing, patterns, spray starch, pins, and point turning tools will be provided. We need volunteers who are stitchers, cutters, peoples with ironing skills, and people willing to pin fabrics together. Come for the company, and discover skills that will progress this project along.

If you have questions, please contact Music Committee Chair  Rachael Scheib.

Book Discussion on
Optimal Relationships
with Rev. Ed

Join Adult Religious Education for a discussion of Rev. Ed Brock's book  Optimal Relationships: A Path Toward a More Civil Society.

Rev. Ed will lead this discussion with insights from his book that describe how fulfilling relationships are achieved, nurtured, and maintained. Through ample use of examples drawn from his decades of experiences as a minister and psychotherapist, his book explores the ways relationships move toward and away from fulfillment.  Rev. Ed looks at one-on-one relationships as found in marriages and committed relationships, as well as relationships involving groups of people, as found in organizations of all types. Relationships are viewed from biological, emotional, psychological, and spiritual perspectives.

This book provides a road map for developing, nurturing, and keeping healthy and vibrant relationships in all aspects of life, as well as provides  step-by-step guidance to help people improve their relationships.

The discussion will be held on Tuesday, November 6, at 6:30 p.m. in the Adult RE room. Books are available for sale at the church, and there are a couple of copies available in the church library for those who need to check out a copy. If you are in need of childcare, contact  Nancy Finley

Start reading, and please join us. Everyone is welcome!
