“Where Theology Meets the Road”
Michael Eselun
10:45 AM
We think we know what we believe and hold to be true, but then comes a crisis of illness or death, and all bets are off! Michael Eselun, a well-known speaker and chaplain at the Simms/Mann-UCLA Center for Integrative Oncology, will explore in his talk "Where the Theology Meets the Road” the different ways patients' beliefs intersect with such a crisis. Are there common themes that surface from the secular and religious alike? Can we come to peace with our doubts?

A Thank You
Many, many thanks for the condolences, flowers, cards, and food we have received regarding my son, Dylan. Last week, we gathered as family/friends several times for some needed sharing and healing—will continue to do so. My other sons Clay (Atlanta area) and Logan (Redmond, WA) were here, as well as one of Dylan's best friends, Seth Stephens (HSV). Logan and Seth have written some really sweet sentiments about Dylan and he will certainly be missed. —Holly
We had updated his obituary, so I wanted to pass along this further information about Dylan to those of you who may not have seen it. There are several nice postings about Dylan there as well in the guest book:
Dylan John Esterling, 27, of Huntsville, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2021.
Dylan was a native of Lawrenceville, GA, and a resident of Madison County for over 21 years. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps having served in Africa as part of the 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion. He was a part of the elite group of Force Recon Marines.
He was an avid artist and gamer. He was extremely passionate about everything he decided to focus on. He loved the ocean and would prefer to go there every day if possible. After leaving the Marines, he lived in Puerto Rico for several years where he worked providing snorkeling and rainforest tours, and currently had resided in Huntsville.
He was a force of joy and excitement as a son, brother, and friend.

Care List
This Sunday at Our Circle of Candles:
Suzey Delacey (she/her) lit a candle of concern: Several other parents of differently-abled kids are really feeling the back-to-school pressure with all the deadlines and fears of needs not being met. Hold us/them in your hearts. That is, as it relates to kids starting school. <3
Jessica Schulz lit a candle of concern: My daughter Lauren is suffering from a breakthrough case of COVID-19 that seems to be causing lingering symptoms. She's very depressed about the whole situation.
Heather Kyemba lit a candle of joy: We’re proud of Sophia for being accepted to the University of Montevallo!
Daniel McKitrick, Shalin Mody (he/him), and the Howard Family lit a candle of joy: Congratulations Sophia! :-D
Nancy Finley lit candles of joy and gratitude: To LaDawn Edwards and all the others that have created such a beautiful and bountiful community garden at our church.
Shalin Mody (he/him) lit a candle of joy: A good trip to see my Mom and Sis (and her two sister cats) and a cousin in the Los Angeles area over the last week. <3
Shalin Mody (he/him) lit a candle of concern: For everyone directly involved with the school year approaching... :-/
Howard Family lit a candle of joy: Angel's and Jason's kids, Theo and Julia Hundley, were back in the US and Huntsville this week visiting family. Such a joy to see how they've grown and to spend time with them and Jason.
Shalin Mody (he/him) lit a candle of concern: Will be giving kids masks to my neighbors w/kids...
Suzey Delacey (she/her) lit a candle of concern: Divisiveness over the masking issues. There are anti-masking protests planned, as well as counter-protests in the HSV area. :-/
