Upcoming Service

Sunday, May 20, 2018

We Create

UUCH Choir and Musicians
Pam Siegler, Music Director
The Reverend Alice Syltie

In this month, themed "Creativity," we have been recognizing and celebrating the many uniquely creative paths we take/make as Unitarian Universalists to express our ever-evolving search for truth--from the creative ways Reverend Alice has inspired us by speaking her truth from the pulpit to the religious education teachers whose stories guide children and youth as they navigate their path.

This Sunday the choir and musicians from our congregation will recreate many of the pieces that have enhanced worship over the past two years. The choir chose these pieces as favorites because of the creative way they tell a story, express a message, or evoke emotion. The "birth" of each song will be presented in special notes in the order of service!
This Sunday in Children and
Youth Religious Education (C Y RE)

Religious Education groups will celebrate the end of the Fall/Spring Program with a celebration in each room. Come for some fun!

Any children and youth who wish are welcome to remain in the sanctuary for the music service.

For more information, contact Erin Reid, Director of Religious Education, or Audrey Fox, CYRE Chair.
Join church friends for an All-ages Camp-out on Friday, May 18th, to Saturday, May 19th, at the country home of Amanda Schuber and Wanda Snoddy (200 Jo Mar Road, Ardmore, AL). The camp-out will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Friday and end at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. You are welcome to come anytime starting at 2:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon for set-up and time on the farm.

All church members and friends are invited! Come for supper and the campfire in the evening if you can't spend the night. Children and youth should attend with parents/guardians. Dogs and instruments are welcome!

Plan to bring tents, sleep gear, jackets, sturdy shoes, change of clothes, camp chairs, flashlights, outdoor games you'd like to play, food to share, and your spirit of adventure and community fun. Children should bring play clothes, as mud is always likely.

Supper will be traditional campfire food, and breakfast will be breakfast burritos (eggs from the chickens next door), plus other breakfast treats including vegan options. Bring your own drinks (non-alcoholic only for this multi-generational event).

Follow this link to RSVP for the camp-out and to sign up to bring a camping classic food item: hot dogs and veggie dogs, beans, chips and dip, s'mores, hot chocolate, and more!

Bathrooms will be available in the house and will close at 9:30 a.m. Allergy warning: cats, dogs, and guinea pigs live in the house.

This event is sponsored by the Children and Youth Religious Education program. Email [email protected] for additional information. All ages are welcome!
Children and Youth Summer Religious Education --
 We Need YOU!

In the summer months, the Children and Youth Religious Education Program takes a special turn from the regular fall and spring curricula. We invite UUCH members and friends to plan a learning session for the children and youth. You'll be part of a teaching team as either the lead teacher or a helper; and we'll be sure to have a regular Religious Education (RE) teacher there as support. Even children and youth can partner with an adult to lead a session!

We invite you to sign up to lead a session that shares a special talent, hobby, skill, or learning area of yours. Here are some topics to get your creative juices flowing: yarn craft, music, finger painting, scrapbooking, nature walks, gardening, yoga, science, paper airplanes, drawing, Lego, origami, fossils, friendship bracelets, mythology, sidewalk chalk, pottery, cookie-making. The possibilities are limitless! What is a joy to you can be a joy to others.

Leaders will prepare a topic/activity that is adaptable to children ages 4 to 12. Senior high youth are invited to participate as leaders and helpers, or to attend the regular worship service in the sanctuary. Because of our exciting program growth, we'll need even more leaders and helpers this summer than before! So, don't be shy!

We have room for the sharing of your gifts. There's nothing like spending time with the children and youth at our church. Their energy, creativity, and intelligence are contagious. And they benefit from interacting with caring adults who make an investment in them. This is what multi-generational community is all about!

For the next month, we'll have posters standing in the church foyer and Fellowship Hall where you can sign up for a summer Sunday session. Alternatively, you can contact Erin Reid, Director of Religious Education (DRE), at  [email protected] or Audrey Fox, CYRE Chair, at [email protected].
