Winter 2014

UDR is off to a great start in 2014. The staff looks forward to a busy year, and we wish all our volunteers and supporters a Happy New Year. Thank you for being part of the UDR family.

UDR Court Program Update
UDR staff member, Suzy Nagar, has assumed the administrative responsibilities for UDR's Court Program. She is scheduling cases and mediators for appeals mediations in the Second and Third Districts, and she is managing UDR's records for small claims mediations in the Salt Lake area. Suzy is also scheduling mediators for several small claims venues.

The following coordinators are overseeing mediations for UDR at the following courts:

Salt Lake City Justice Court
Pam Pannier oversees mediations on Wednesday evenings
Geoff Huntsman oversees mediation on Thursday evenings

Salt Lake County Justice Court
Pam Pannier and Pam Nelson share responsibility to oversee mediations at this Thursday morning venue.

West Valley City Justice Court
Nancy Hansen oversees mediations at this Wednesday morning venue.

Taylorsville City Justice Court
Pam Nelson oversees mediations for this court on select Thursday evenings.

Logan City Justice Court
Bernice McCowan and Daniel King share responsibility to oversee mediations on Monday mornings at this venue.

Ogden City Justice Court
Evie Brinkerhoff in UDR's Ogden office oversees mediation at this court on Thursday afternoon.

To schedule time to observe or mediate in UDR's Court Program, contact Suzy by email at udrcourt@gmail.com or by phone (801-532-4841). She can either put you on the calendar or connect you with the appropriate coordinator.

 Roster Requalification Reports are Due
Annual Reports are due January 31, 2014!

UDR asks all volunteers who mediate in our programs to maintain their status on Utah's Roster of Mediators. The Court requires mediators to submit their re-qualification forms and annual reports to the Court ADR Director.
Mediators should have received email notification. In case you've misplaced the forms, they are available on UDR's Volunteer Web page. Click this link to access the forms

All mediators are encouraged to maintain your own log of the mediations you conduct. We suggest that your log include the date and length of mediation, type of case, an identifying case number, the names of the parties, and the final disposition (i.e., full, partial, or no agreement).

SLC Office in Turmoil
Anyone who has visited our Salt Lake office in the past two weeks may be wondering why our belongings are overflowing into the lower lobby area.

The Law & Justice Center installed a new HVAC system in 2013, and it sprang a leak over the MLK holiday weekend. One of our offices sustained damage, which required water extraction and carpet replacement.

UDR's staff has demonstrated remarkable resiliency in the face of this crisis as we wait for the old carpet and walls to dry out and new carpeting to be installed. Meanwhile, our area is strewn with the contents of the evacuated office.

We now anticipate restoring order in another two weeks, which is the projected timeframe for new carpeting.

Thanks for your patience!

UDR strives toward continual improvement of services. I welcome your suggestions and comments. Please send me your concerns and ideas.

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Nancy McGahey
