Vicksburg-Warren County Chamber of Commerce: Chamber Chat

September 2015
Greetings Chamber Members,

Hope you enjoy this Labor Day Holiday-a day to thank American workers for their contributions to America's quality of life.

Quality of Life and promoting business is this Chamber's mission. Thank you for your membership!  Membership is increasing! We experienced a "sell out" crowd at our August monthly luncheon when we heard Vicksburg Warren School District Superintendent and Chamber Board member, Chad Shealy, briefing of public education in this community.  We also recognized Pam Wilbanks of Porters Chapel Academy, Mary Arledge and Dr. Buddy Strickland of Vicksburg Catholic School, Dr. Chris Gilmer of Alcorn University and Marvin Moak of Hinds Community College. These local school leaders are preparing our future workforce.

Speaking of Vicksburg's future workforce.   Bob Morrison of Morrison Companies and Brother Blackburn of Blackburn Motor Company just recently solicited your support for the Chamber's Education Initiative, Franklin Covey's The Leader in Me.  Thanks, Bob and Brother, for your dedication to address a very important criteria in our quality of life.  Your financial support funds puts Leader in Me in more of our schools.
"Raise Up Strong Leaders" is Key Number 4 in Jack Schultz's book, BOOMTOWN, USA, the 7 ½ Keys to Big Success in Small Towns. Our Chamber program, Leadership Vicksburg, is one way to raise up leaders for this community. Applications and payment is due by September 18. Thank you to the businesses, government offices, and organizations who have hosted lunch and tours of their facilities for past Leadership Vicksburg classes.  A special thank you also goes to the Class of 2015 Leadership Vicksburg Advisory Council of Christy Wilson of LedgerPurvis Real Estate, LLC, Ginger Donohue of Regions Bank, Alice Bell of Mutual Credit Union, Angela Turner of the City of Vicksburg and Frank Gardner of Ameristar.

Lastly, let me recognize two community leaders,  T. J. Tennison of Crossway Church and Carl Hearn of Batesville Casket,  who have replaced two Chamber Board members.  Thank you for your leadership!

Together-we can improve the quality of life in Vicksburg, Mississippi!

Billy's Italian Restaurant Expands its Offerings to Local Grocery Store Chain

Billy's Italian Restaurant opened in Vicksburg, Miss., in May 2001 by husband-and-wife team Billy and Robin Lieberman. This dynamic duo has been in the restaurant business since 1976, when they opened their first restaurant in Washington D.C. Fate landed them in Vicksburg, where they have created a neighborhood restaurant atmosphere with  down home good food. For 14 years, the restaurant has seen local, loyal folks to international travelers, who are all seeking a good Italian meal with a Southern flair.

Now, with a loyal following, Billy's Italian Restaurant is embarking on a new venture. The restaurant is launching its own homemade line of food for retail distribution. The first launch includes the restaurant's top favorites - starting with homemade chicken salad. Billy's famous chicken salad will be available for retail sale at Vicksburg Corner Market in Memorial Plaza off of Indiana Avenue beginning Saturday, September 5.   Robin Leiberman will be at Corner Market promoting the Chicken Salad  from 11 am until 2 pm  starting September 5 through September 7.  Everyone is invited to come out and pick up a pound or two of Billy's Famous Chicken Salad just in time for Labor Day festivities!
