About Walt Bethel:
Walt Bethel is a fifth generation Floridian, born and raised in Arcadia,  with a vast knowledge of all areas of Florida Real Estate and an ardent appreciation for Florida history.    

The purchase and development of his first orange grove when he was just sixteen years old fueled Walt's passion for real estate.  

Since then, he has bought, owned, and sold a wide variety of properties throughout a successful business career.  His investments have included acreage, agricultural properties, residential homes, condos, and commercial properties. 

Walt's marketing and sales experience was cultivated over time at his family's business, Bethel Farms, where he marketed, managed, and sold products to "Big Box" retailers across the Southeastern

 and  Midwestern United States.

 From an early age, Walt's dad instilled in him the values to work hard and always have a goal, to look for a better way of doing things, and to constantly improve on them.  

The daily implementation of these principles, coupled with his enjoyment of networking with new people and his experience in business, sales, and marketing, have contributed to Walt's success as a Realtor.


 Walt has served on various boards and committees throughout the years. He has coached and actively supports local youth athletic programs and leagues. 

He and his wife Jill, also a fourth generation Floridian, reside in Punta Gorda. They have two teenage children, a daughter Peyton and a son   Truman.

A building most DeSoto Countians are familiar with, but may not remember its beginnings.

Th e Arcadia Tire & Appliance Company opened in the new building on the corner of Hickory Street and DeSoto Avenue, June, 1966.

This photo is from the April 18, 1968 edition of The Arcadian, when it was a carpet store.

 And how most of us remember it, in three years it was converted into the Country Gentlemen restaurant & Foodette store, September of 1969. 

 T his image is from 2010, and building is currently a Mexican store and restaurant.

On January 9th  in 1855, Florida Governor James E. Broome signed into law legislation that carved a 5,000-square mile section of land out of Hillsborough County. The new Manatee County's boundaries stretched from Tampa Bay east to the Kissimmee River, all the way down to Lake Okeechobee, west to the Gulf of Mexico along what is now the boundary between Lee County and  Charlotte County. It included all or parts of Manatee, Hardee, Highlands, DeSoto, Glades, Charlotte and Sarasota counties.
The Village of Manatee was the county seat from 1855-1866 when Pine Level became the county seat. Manatee County was split in 1887 forming Manatee (which included today's Sarasota County) and DeSoto. Pine Level continued to be the county seat for DeSoto County for another year. 
In Nov. 1888 a vote was cast and the seat was moved to Arcadia. In 1921, DeSoto County was divided into Charlotte, DeSoto, Glades, Hardee and Highlands counties. Check out this map below can see where the future counties were formed by the red lines that were added.
