The Washington County Sheriff's Office is committed to our community's safety and routinely conducts AMBER Alert training to practively prepare to safely recover missing or abducted children.
Our dedicated AMBER Alert response team consists of experienced sergeants, jail and patrol deputies, jail services technicians, and an assigned detective. Their expertise and swift action make all the difference.
In the unfortunate event of an abduction, our AMBER Alert team springs into action. Within minutes, a call center is set up, and we collaborate closely with the Oregon State Police to coordinate our efforts effectively.
To activate an AMBER Alert, specific criteria must be met:
✅ An abduction of a child 17 years of age or younger has occurred.
✅ The abduction was witnessed, and there is a description of the suspect or suspect vehicle available.
✅ There is reason to believe that the child's life is in immediate danger.
If you suspect an abduction has taken place, we urge you to be a good witness and promptly call 9-1-1. Every second counts when it comes to the safety of our children.

K9 Radar and Sgt. O'Reilly swiftly apprehended a fleeing suspect on New Year's Day, marking an impressive start to 2024.
On New Year's Day, shortly after 3 p.m., the Beaverton Police Department called upon K9 Radar and his partner, Sgt. O'Reilly, to assist in apprehending a man with active warrants who fled from a vehicle after a traffic stop.
With remarkable speed and precision, Radar quickly tracked the suspect, leading to a successful capture 9 minutes later near Schiffler Park.
Born on December 31, 2013, Radar is a purebred Belgian Malinois who joined the Sheriff's Office in 2015 as a highly-skilled tracking dog. Celebrating his 10th birthday just days prior, Radar wasted no time in making the first capture of 2024 for our esteemed K9 team.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Radar for his unwavering dedication and hard work, as he continues to serve and protect our community.

Winter Weather Preparedness | |
WCSO urges drivers to stay vigilant and informed, whether it's stormy conditions, power outages, or messy commutes. Update yourself with current winter weather forecasts and driving conditions before venturing out. Take time to prepare in advance to ensure your safety, regardless of the weather. Consider these essential safety tips:
- Build an emergency kit and verify it is well-stocked, including items like jumper cables, flashlights, flares or emergency markers, an ice scraper, a cell phone, a cell phone charger, blankets, water, and any necessary supplies.
- If winter weather is anticipated, make sure your vehicle has a full tank of gas.
- Plan your commute route, including alternative routes in case of road closures.
- Check your tires and vehicle to ensure they are ready for winter conditions.
- Drive cautiously, slow down, and maintain extra distance between vehicles.
- Stay informed about winter weather and driving condition updates through local news sources.
Remember, take it slow out there, and prioritize your safety and warmth during this winter season in Washington County.

Our favorite part of December is when our deputies and staff get to help spread holiday cheer around the county through our annual Shop With A Cop program.
Working with local elementary schools and DHS, children and families are nominated to receive gifts from their wish lists and other needed items. The program partners each nominated child with a deputy to shop for their family members; creating valuable and positive interactions with law enforcement while demonstrating the season of giving and receiving gifts themselves
This year, assisted 70 children and their families from the communities of Aloha, Raleigh Hills, and Cornelius.
The program would not be possible without our wonderful volunteers and generous donations from various community partners.
Special thanks to the Sheriff's Office Foundation, Washington County Police Officers Association, A Cooler Tomorrow, LLC, Fred Meyer, Raleigh Hills Business Association, Target, Coach Sarge Cine, Reser's Cares, On Point Credit Union, and Walmart.
For those interested in getting involved or contributing to our program next year, please get in touch with the Sheriff's Office Foundation or Public Affairs.
