Dear friends,
What does it take to be a great leader?
To be a great leader should you be wise, should you be intelligent, should you have outstanding communication skills with a loud voice along with a commanding presence? Is a great leader a strategic thinker to cast a vision for all? Should you be resilient with a heart for the people? Honesty for sure. Really, all these attributes go into making a great leader. This coming Sunday at Westminster Church we will welcome new leaders into the life of the congregation as we ordain and install officers.
Jesus spoke to what it is to be a great leader when he said, “Whoever wishes to be great among you must be your servant.” Jesus gave a living example when he washed the feet of his disciples. Washing the feet was a menial task, assigned to the servants, as they washed the dirty feet of the household. Jesus knelt before his disciples, washed their feet, and dried them with his own cloak. Each of our new officers will be given a towel as a symbolic reminder that Jesus shows us that the one who would be the greatest is to be a humble servant of all, faithful to the ways of the Lord.
Join us this Sunday for worship at 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. as Dr. Jo Forrest will preach “Uniquely Called” from Mark’s gospel. We will welcome new Deacons and Elders who answered their call to be officers to lead all of us. We are grateful for the technology which allows us to livestream the services and be together remotely.

Fresh Air, Fresh Faces – Getting to Know Jo Forrest

Fellowship opportunities have been hard to come by in the last year. It’s been hard for everyone but it’s especially hard for a new pastor who wants to get to know the members of Westminster. That’s not going to stop our church, though. The Reverend Dr. Jo Forrest has proposed a way to begin to get to know all of those faces in the directory she has been studying since the fall.
There’s no agenda or set topics. It’s just a chance to get to know Jo and maybe some other members whose faces you know but who are new to you in conversation. If Fresh Air, Fresh Faces meetings are popular, they will be offered beyond the initial schedule.
The first flight of “get-to-know each other” opportunities involves two Zoom calls and two Fellowship Walks. Each week’s connection will be 45-60 minutes and will be limited to eight members so that everyone has a real chance to be part of the conversation.

Grow Living Stones

Work together with other Westminster volunteers at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Beechview, helping to set up and serve food.
Single use grocery store bags are also needed! Please bring your bags to Westminster and put them in the plastic bin on the breezeway between the offices and the sanctuary by Saturday, January 30.
