Dear Friends,
I’ve caught myself falling into a habit recently. Whenever I talk about what it’s like to be a part of a church or a ministry over this past year, I refer to it as, “this weird season.” It is weird, isn’t it? Just this morning as I chewed on that thought I wondered to myself if it would ever stop feeling weird. I believe that the light on the horizon is growing ever-stronger, and I’m still thrown off by the idea of a “new normal.” As we gathered in prayer to begin The Bridge service a few weeks back I mentioned that it would be a “normal Sunday,” to which one of the band members gestured around us to the empty gym, and remarked, “Normal?” He’s right. It’s still not normal. It’s still weird; and I think that’s a good thing.
This Sunday is Transfiguration Sunday - a day when we reflect on Jesus as the fulfillment of God’s word on earth. What must it have been like for Peter, James, and John to witness this transfiguration? Weird would be one word; but that very weirdness is what makes it stand out. When things catch us off guard, we reflect on them. Let’s not forget to reflect on this season, friends, even as we live in its midst.
Be well,
Ed

One-on-One Zoom Interviews
Joining a new pastorate in the midst of a pandemic is not an easy way to meet people. The pastoral transition team conceived of the idea to do some very quick Zoom interviews to help Jo and the congregation get to know each other a little bit better through a casual Q&A.
This week, Jo is joined by Shannon Paupa. Please enjoy the first video of this series.

Jo has enjoyed several Zoom calls and neighborhood walks with members of the congregation. Read here about how you can join Jo for a neighborhood walk on Sunday, February 21, at 1:00 p.m.
Being new to the area, Jo would love to see more of the South Hills. If you would like to organize a walk in your neighborhood, please contact John Van Cleve at 412-848-6074.

Ash Wednesday Livestream Worship Service
February 17
7:30 p.m.
|
|
Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent with a public act of confession and contrition. Acknowledging that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, we stand in solidarity as fellow creatures before our Creator, acutely aware of our mortality. In the face of our transience, we pledge ourselves anew to live unto God’s Word in Jesus Christ, the eternal Word that remains forever.
Join us as we gather to begin our Lenten journey, following Jesus to his cross, and examining our lives through common elements.
