Friday, July 31
Hello,

Over the summer, the pastors shared in the joy of baptizing fourteen children into the Christian faith at Westminster Church: A slice of heaven.

The families came individually to the north courtyard to present their child or children. Under the lovely locust trees, these young people were bestowed with the promise of God’s grace upon them as the waters of baptism poured over their heads. In baptism, the love of God is poured out for us, through Jesus Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit. As baptism marks the beginning of new life in Christ, an elder represented all of us, the congregation, and promised with delight to nurture the child in the faith.

This Sunday we celebrate the other sacrament in the Presbyterian tradition, the Lord’s Supper at 9:00 and 11:00 during our virtual worship. At the communion table, God’s sustaining grace is offered to all people. We affirm the promises of our baptism and recommit ourselves to love and serve God, one another, and our neighbors in the world. As Paul wrote, “we who are many are one body.” (1 Cor. 10:17)

Thanks to God for the gift of these beautiful children! Thanks be to God for God’s amazing love found in the ongoing sacraments of our faith community, the church!

Together on the journey,
Louise

Outreach Opportunity
Be the Light for Bair

The Outreach commission is again partnering with the Bair Foundation for some summertime needs for foster kids. There are children in their care that do not have summer clothing that fits. They also have a need for some diversity items such as books and play figurines which highlight people of different ethnicity and abilities. A Reflection from Paul Jacobs

Where were you on July 28, 2000? Perhaps you were sitting in Westminster's sanctuary witnessing history being made by organist Paul Jacobs as he played the complete solo organ works of Bach by memory over 18 hours on Westminster's 81-rank Austin organ. Read Sara Kyle's article about that event here .

To mark the 20th anniversary of this momentous occasion, the Organ Artists Series of Pittsburgh and Westminster Music & Arts Series had scheduled a return visit from Jacobs for July 28. Like so many other events this year, it had to be canceled. Mr. Jacobs shared a reflection with us about his experience that day, which you can read here .
Session Update

A special Session meeting was held on July 27 to discuss the possible reopening of the church for in-person worship. The Session elected to ask the task force for criteria that can be used in making such a decision for the future. In the meantime, the church will continue to provide virtual worship services.
JAM Pool Party Canceled

Unfortunately, we have to cancel the JAM pool party for August 19 due to Montclair Pool not having private parties in August. We hope to plan another event for JAM children in August. Watch your email and our church website for details to come!
