Destination Development Tourism Networking Event

Engage, Collaborate and Co-create

On April 26, 2023, The Town of Whitby held the Destination Development Tourism Networking Event in the incredible space of the Tap Room at Town Brewery.

We were joined by our tourism colleagues, local businesses and attractions, Central Counties Tourism, Durham Tourism, and community partners. We were also excited to launch the Official Town of Whitby Tourism website at this event.

This networking event was designed to pursue partnerships and collaboration between tourism businesses and community organizations to develop a tourism economy that is welcoming for both visitors and residents.

We are looking forward to sharing exciting tourism initiatives, continue to grow our relationships with tourism providers, uncover new partnerships, tell the stories of our amazing community and work to create high quality visitor experiences.

In 2015 Benito Suppa recognized a need in Durham

Region for a new entertainment concept. Having always been a gamer, a lover of Dungeons and Dragons, Zelda and puzzles, Benito tapped into his life-long passion and

skill-set. Durham Escape Rooms was born.

Durham Escape Rooms offer cross-generational entertainment experiences, games for birthday parties, bachelor, and bachelorette parties, get-togethers, corporate team building, special events and corporate mobile escape room experiences for up to 400 players.

In addition, they sell board games and offers online puzzle hunts.

Future plans include expanding into doing community events and building relationships with school boards via the outreach program with Durham District School Board to create interactive, puzzle based educational games as well as active games for outdoor or indoor gymnasium use.

In October 2023, Durham Escape Rooms will be celebrating 8 years in business and proudly boasts being one of the trail blazers that has seen Whitby grow to become the entertainment hub for Durham Region.

The pandemic was a trying time for businesses everywhere and it definitely took its toll on Durham Escape Rooms and Benito himself. But he is grateful to be able to once again look to the future and plan the growth of this business he began out of a love for games and play.
