Woodard Named Chair-Elect
Albertha Woodard, Laboratory Director with Chester Regional Hospital, has been named Chair-Elect of the Board of Directors for the Chester County Chamber of Commerce. Woodard will serve a year following current chair Abby Brunson of the Chester County School District when her term ends in January 2019. "I am honored and excited to serve in this role next year," explains Ms. Woodard, "and look forward to working with businesses of all sizes to continue to move Chester County forward. I want to positively impact others' lives." Ms. Woodard will assume her new duties January 24, 2019.
Small Business Series Concludes
York Technical College Chester Center, the Small Business Development Center based at Winthrop University, and the Chamber offered a five-month long series on "Strengthening Your Business Foundation." Topics studied included HR practices, marketing, and business finance. Twenty individual business professionals attended and ten completed the entire series. Those who received Small Business Management Certificates of Completion from York Technical College were: Damon Archie (Land Management Services); Angela Cook (TC Enterprises); Kathy Cortopassi (Voice to Print Captioning); William Floyd (ChromaSol International); DeeDee Hinton (AJ's Playhouse); Cenetra Hughes (O'Swan); Belinda Rice (Rice Tours); Sharon Roddey (Roddey's BBQ); Nathan Walker (RichIcons); Penelope Winslow (Penelope's Studio); Vivian Young-Jackson (TJ's Driving School)
Women Leaders enjoy their "Live, Laugh & Learn Luncheon" Series
York Technical College Chester Center hosted the Chamber's "Live, Laugh & Learn Luncheon" on July 19th with special guest speaker Dr. Iva Hughes (pictured left). Dr. Hughes shared her personal story of becoming a doctor and running a successful business here in Chester County. Ladies enjoyed lunch catered by Buttermilk's BBQ. The event gives participants a chance to network and connect with other female business owners and professionals from the county, and is open to all women of the Chester County Chamber of Commerce.

Buttermilk's BBQ held its Grand Opening & Ribbon Cutting on July 12th. This new business is open on Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays for take-out and catering. Call 444-4080!

Fairfield Inn & Suites in Rock Hill held a wonderful beach-themed BAH for members of both the Chester County and York County Chambers.
The Chester Golf Club celebrated their newly renovated club house with a ribbon cutting and BAH for Chamber members and friends.

Each year, the State Chamber hits the road to hear from business leaders across the state about the issues facing their communities. Make sure your voice is heard as the S.C. Chamber stops in our area to gain your insights and feedback. The feedback received from the meetings will help shape the 2019 Competitiveness Agenda, which lays out the business community’s priorities for next year’s legislative session.

Registration and lunch begin at 11:30 am, with program starting at 12:00 pm.

November 13: OSHA: Job Safety Analysis Training
The  Job Safety Analysis Training  course offers a proven process for controlling operation hazards and costs. You will learn how to manage a JSA program and gain a better understanding of your role in making it effective, as well as how to enlist participation from front-line employees, supervisors, and upper management. The result: efficient procedures that help reduce personal injuries and operation costs.
 
November 14: OSHA: Incident Investigation Training
The  Incident Investigation Training  course focuses on techniques for gathering complete, accurate, and objective incident data, establishing root causes, reporting findings and determining corrective action. Participants will learn how to uncover the who, what, why, when, and how of each incident, and how to analyze data to prevent injuries, property damages and financial losses. 


News from our Arts Council:

AUGUST 2: "POTTERY FOR A CURE"
Artist Miriam Boyd will teach a pottery class for all ages at the Arts Council of Chester County on August 2 from 5:30-7:30 pm. Participants will create a clay pot using the coil method. After firing, choose from a black or purple glazing.
$35 per person; all supplies provided. The pottery will be ready for pickup after drying, firing, and glazing is complete (approximately 2 weeks).
Deadline to register is July 31.  Call 581-2030 to register.
 
**This class is a special fundraiser coordinated by Rayna Foster to raise money for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Rayna was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2016. Type 1 diabetes has no cure but JDRF is helping us get closer every day through their research.*
Dessert and coffee will also be sold during the class to help with this fundraiser.

J oin the Arts Council of Chester County as we host the Jingle Bell Bazaar, our annual Indoor Holiday Art Market featuring lots of artists and vendors! Saturday, November 17, from 10-3 at the Chester War Memorial Building.
 
Kick off the holiday season with this opportunity to buy your unique, handmade Christmas gifts.
 
In addition to many different artists with handmade jewelry, ornaments, Christmas pillows, paintings, wreaths, and pottery, we will also have a Coffee Bar, Lunch Cafe, Raffle, and Door Prizes!
