Phone Use for Illnesses

Cold and flu season is upon us. If a student does not feel well, they should see the school nurse to be evaluated.  If the student needs to go home, the nurse will contact the parents.  Students may not call or text a parent directly without permission, and parents should not come to school to pick up their child without being contacted by the nurse first. Thank you for helping us to follow these protocols and procedures.
After-school Student Pick-up

The City of York has requested that cars not park on the grass across the street from the school while waiting for students at dismissal time.  Thank you for your cooperation.
YC Science & Engineering Fair

Students participating in this year's Science Fair should plan to stay after school on
Friday, January 11, from 3-3:30 PM. This includes all students who completed the Science Research & Writing course in Spring 2018 and Fall 2018 semesters. Students should bring their poster, paper, and lab notebook to school with them that morning and store it in room 218 for the day. Bus riders will need to arrange alternate transportation that day. Presenters should plan to attend the Science Fair on Sunday, January 13, from 11:30 AM-2:30 PM in full uniform.

Approximately 20 students will be presenting science fair projects during the Open House on Sunday, January 13, from 12-2 PM. These students have been enrolled in the Science Research and Writing semester-long class. The purpose of this course is to provide support to honors students who are required to perform a science fair experiment. After performing individual and unique experiments, students present the data they collect over 16 weeks through a technical paper, visual poster, and verbal presentation. First place winners will proceed to the York County Science and Engineering Fair, which takes place at Penn State-York in March. Topics range from the effect of exercise on emotional intelligence to the determination of the best camouflage in wooded environments. The Science and Engineering Fair is open to the public.

Geography Bee
Numerous junior high students volunteered to participate in the annual Junior High Geography Bee scheduled for Friday, January 18, at 8:30 AM.  The junior high attends the event which quizzes students on their general knowledge in United States and world geography.  Questions start off as multiple choice, but as the Bee progresses, students must come up with the answer.  Each round of questions has a topic, like U.S. cities or geographical terms.  At the end of the preliminary rounds, the top 10 scores move on to the final round.  At this level, students are eliminated after they get 2 wrong answers, until we are down to 2 final contestants.  The final round questions are written and each contestant answers the same question.  The winner represents YC at the Diocesan Bee in Harrisburg and takes a written test to qualify for the State Bee.  Parents are welcome to attend the Bee on January 18.
