Mark Your Calendar

Middle School and High School students will dismiss at 11 AM tomorrow, Friday, January 17.

School is closed Monday, January 20, in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Want to be Part of a "First Ever"?

Don’t you love to tell people stories about “the first time we ever did this…”? You will get your chance on January 27-28, when York Catholic Middle & High School hosts its first ever Day of Giving. This day is a celebration of the great traditions and heritage of York Catholic, and it’s an investment in the continued success as we begin 2025 and beyond.

Beginning at noon on Monday, January 27, and continuing through 6:00 pm on Tuesday the 28th, the Fighting Irish family can support our students and teachers by making a gift on our website. We will have gift challenges, class competitions, lots of videos and interviews of students, faculty, and coaches. No gift is too small.

All Day of Giving gifts will be included in our York Catholic Fund annual campaign. As you know, our students have access to a variety of extracurricular activities and clubs, and faculty members have the necessary resources to teach a substantive curriculum that might not be possible were it not for the York Catholic Fund. We look forward to hearing from you on January 27-28 and we thank you for your continued support!

Mid-Term Exam Grades

Viewing mid-term grades in Focus is slightly different than the process used to view class grades. Parents and students wishing to view their mid-term exam grades in Focus should follow these steps:

  1. Log into the parent or student portal
  2. If there are multiple students in your family, click on student's name
  3. Click on "Grades" in the menu on the left
  4. Click the box next to "Show Exams"
  5. Click on "View Detailed Report" (located next to the "Update" button)
  6. Select "Semester 1 Exams" from the top menu

Geography Bee

Numerous Middle School students volunteered to participate in the annual Middle School Geography Bee scheduled for Friday, January 17, at 8:30 AM.  The 7th & 8th grade attends the event which quizzes students on their general knowledge of United States and world geography.  Questions start off as multiple choice, but as the Bee progresses, students must come up with the answer.  Each round of questions has a topic, like U.S. cities or geographical terms.  At the end of the preliminary rounds, the top 10 scores move on to the final round.  At this level, students are eliminated after they get 2 wrong answers, until we are down to 2 final contestants.  The final round questions are written and each contestant answers the same question.  The winner represents YC at the Diocesan Bee in Harrisburg and takes a written test to qualify for the State Bee.

Mission Collection

YC will be collecting “Pennies for Life” to support the Women's Care Center in York on Wednesday, January 22. Your donations will educate people on pro-life issues and counsel post-abortive women and men. Participants are asked to donate $1 for each year of their life in thanksgiving to God for the life He has given them, and to “give life” to another person.  A baby bottle container will be placed in homerooms.  Please give generously to the Pennies for Life.

Retreat - Grade 8

The 8th Grade Retreat is scheduled for January 23 at St. Mary’s Church. York Catholic retreats are a time to step out of the classroom for a day and focus on our relationship with God, both personally and as a student body. This is a special time for many of our 8th Graders as they prepare to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation later this year. We hope all of our students will encounter God in a special way during this retreat.

Refer a Friend to YC

If you know a friend, family member, or anyone looking for a high-quality, Christ-centered education for their children who do not already attend a Catholic school, you could receive a $250 credit toward your child's tuition at York Catholic.

York Catholic's Parent Referral Program is a win-win for everyone involved. Referred students receive an outstanding education from York Catholic, while parents of the referred families get peace of mind knowing their child is gaining so much more than just a top-notch education. Families who refer someone who registers at York Catholic receive a $250 credit towards their child's tuition.

You, as parents, are our best ambassadors.  In order for the Parent Referral Program to be a success, we need information about individuals who may be interested in joining the York Catholic family. All you need to do is click below to fill out the form. If the family you refer attends York Catholic through their first semester, your family's tuition will be credited $250, spread into 4 credits applied to the months of February, March, April, and May.

It really is that simple. So go ahead. Please click on the box below and allow us the opportunity to do what we love -- help to develop, nurture, and encourage children so they may grow in faith, mind, and heart. Mail or email the form to us and we will take it from there!

The Parent Referral Program is open to all parents of current York Catholic students. The tuition credit is not available for referring your own children. The $250 credit is only good toward tuition on a student's account; no cash is given, and it is non-transferrable. A referred student applies only to a new student from a non-partner school.

Thank you for all you do for our school!

Give Yourself a Tax Break!

Pennsylvania now allows individuals to take advantage of EITC Tax Credits (just as businesses can) whereby you have the opportunity to re-direct 90% of your personal state income taxes to York Catholic Middle & High School.

The Special Purpose Entity (SPE) is based on tax liability, not income, therefore each taxpayer’s situation will differ. Participants must be PA residents where at least one spouse is employed or has an ownership interest in a PA for-profit business. An individual or couple filing jointly must have a state tax liability of $3,500 or more to participate. To see if you qualify for 2025, you can find your PA tax liability on Form PA-40 Line 12 of your 2024 tax return. 100% of participant contributions are distributed to the school. You have to pay these taxes regardless, so why not have a say in how your taxes are allocated? Additionally, you will receive at least a 10% personal deduction on your federal taxes. The money you re-direct to York Catholic is for educational purposes, specifically tuition assistance.

If you would like to take advantage of this opportunity to reduce your tax liability AND provide much needed assistance to York Catholic students, please follow these steps:

For more information about this easy tax donation, please contact Dave Salter, York Catholic Director of Development, at dsalter@yorkcatholic.org or 717-846-8871 x1325.
