Gurley's Foods Celebrates 40 Years
Congratulations to Tom Taunton of Gurley's Foods on 40 years of membership! Gurley’s is a roaster/manufacturer of nuts and trail mixes, and packager of candy products. Gurley’s Foods was built in 1953 to produce cookies for the Archway Cookie Company. By 1964, owner Andy Goedert recognized the need to diversify, and found a small, highly reputable nut roasting company in St. Paul called Gurley’s. He bought the company and started producing nut products there and cookies in Willmar. In 1966, Archway, just as Andy had predicted, built their own bakeries. Over the years, customers grew accustomed to high quality products but couldn’t get them outside of Minnesota. Eventually this led to the distribution of products to grocery and convenience stores nationwide. Pictured with Tom are Chamber Diplomats Suzanne Hass (Allstate Insurance), Tracy Lundy (Lake Region Bank), Jessica Hanson (Willmar Hypnosis), Jon Rambow (Rambow), Jon Schmidt (DATASuccess, Inc), and Kathryn Mueller (Christianson PLLP).

Business Education Network
BEN and the Willmar High School welcomed Bethesda, Mid-Minnesota Development Commission and the Kandiyohi County and City of Willmar Economic Development Commission to Zero Hour at the high school on April 5th. The students had a chance to spin a wheel to win prizes, grab a piece of candy and of course, learn more about these great businesses located right here in the Willmar Lakes Area.
Zero Hour is the first hour on Wednesdays at the Willmar High School. This time is scheduled every other week for students to catch up on tests or missing work. Those that do not have work to catch up on are in the commons area until classes start at 9am. This gives us the opportunity to showcase all the fantastic businesses right here in the Willmar Lakes Area. If you would like the opportunity to connect with the Willmar High School students, please reach out to Jennifer Lindquist - the program coordinator for BEN -at BENCoordinator@willmarareachamber.com to schedule your date to attend. We only have a few more openings this school year: April 12th, April 26th and May 10th, so don’t miss this opportunity to showcase your business to the WPS students.
