Warner Receives MCCE Legacy Award

The Minnesota Chamber of Commerce Executives (MCCE) Annual Awards are meant to recognize exceptional achievements by industry professionals, for work above and beyond. The Legacy award was created for an executive who has persevered through ten or more years in the industry and has left a lasting impression. Ken is viewed by his membership, community, and his Chamber industry peers as a strong, effective voice for business. He began his career in Windom and spent a short time St. Cloud between gigs in Willmar. Ken is a supportive mentor to other Chamber executives, always willing to lend his expertise to others. Other words often used when describing Ken include respected, strong advocate, thoughtful, tall, exemplary role model, and most important, friend. He believes in the work he does, and he lives the work, often shunning any personal recognitions. Ken Warner has created a legacy and is very deserving of this honor! After 38 years in the Chamber industry, Ken plans to retire on October 6th.

Business Education Network Active in Local Schools

BEN and the Willmar High School welcomed the Bounce Back Project sponsored by CentraCare to Zero Hour on February 8th. The students had a chance to spin the wheel to answer a question about self-care, resiliency, gratitude and random acts of kindness to win a pop-it or post-it note pack. The students shared “what are you grateful for?” on a giant poster in the Commons Area.

Zero Hour is the first hour on Wednesdays at the Willmar High School. This time is scheduled every other week for students to catch up on tests or missing work. Those that do not have work to catch up on are in the Commons Area until classes start at 9am. This gives us the opportunity to showcase all the fantastic businesses in the Willmar Lakes Area. If you would like the opportunity to connect with the Willmar High School students, please reach out to Jennifer Lindquist. We have openings on February 22nd, March 15th, April 12th and a few other dates before the end of the school year.

In January, BEN presented the CEO in the Classroom at Central Minnesota Christian School in Prinsburg. CEO In the Classroom allows business professionals to engage with students, talk with them about their career choices in the Willmar Lakes Area and discuss how the decisions in high school will open future opportunities. The program is designed to show classroom students that they are in control of their future educational goals through personal choice and educational decisions. Thank you to Steve Gardner with Willmar Electric and Jeff Duininck with Duininck Inc for taking time to present to these students. If you would like to become a presenter for future presentations, please reach out to Jennifer Lindquist.
