What Parents Should Know: Abuse of ADHD drugs following the path of opioids Pills

Opioids and the sharp increase in overdose deaths have been the focus of public health officials for many years. The abuse of ADHD medications are following a similar pattern as opioids.

Health professionals are seeing a dramatic rise in the complications from abuse, including overdose deaths. It is important to remain up to date on this under-the-radar problem.

Tips For Teens: Detour Letter
music
Each month we feature an inspirational letter from a student in our Detour Class. Detour is a class designed to gently but powerfully challenge common beliefs about drug and alcohol use. One of the assignments at the end of the class is to write a letter to a special person in your life that touches on some important aspects from the class.

Action Point: How to Prevent Drug Use at Every Age
Parents have an enormous amount of influence in their children's life when it comes to drugs and alcohol. Studies have repeatedly shown that teens who feel that their parent would strongly disapprove of a certain substance are less likely to use it. It is important that children know how their parents feel about drug and alcohol use. Knowing how much to say and when can be a difficult thing to figure out.

So what can you do? Partnership for Drug-Free Kids offers a parent toolkit. This toolkit offers talking points and suggestions for children ages 2-20.
