CRRL-Con is almost here! Come join us at Howell Branch on Saturday, 5/20, for a cosplay contest with terrific prizes, face painting, a scavenger hunt, an aikido demonstration, and more.

Note that all CRRL branches will be closed Monday, May 29, for Memorial Day.

READ is the word for this summer, and the all-ages Summer Reading Challenge is now open. There are so many good books in the library! Check out the list of Staff Picks for May for recommended reading from your librarians.

We have 22 library-sponsored book groups that make for marvelous reading company -- and two brand new ones! Every second Tuesday, enjoy Books & Coffee at 25°-30° Espresso Coffee Roasters in Spotsylvania Courthouse and discuss your favorite books. For Pride Month in June, we're inaugurating Rainbow Reads, an LGBTQ+ and allies book group for adults.

There are book groups for many different age groups. The Middle School Graphic Novel Group is reading a magical selection this month, and the Young Adult Book Group is talking about the mysterious Inheritance Games. Our latest teen list, Books for Asian American & Pacific Islander Month, features novels and graphic novels that explore these cultures, often with a focus on friendship or romance.

Our online author talks are a great way to get to know bestselling writers and thought leaders. On 5/20, young adult author Courtney Summers shares her latest suspense novel, I'm the Girl. On 6/7, organizational psychologist Mike Rucker will discuss his book, The Fun Habit: How the Disciplined Pursuit of Joy and Wonder Can Change Your Life.

While we love reading, the library also offers many hands-on learning opportunities. Curious about what's under the hood of your computer? Connect with us online 5/30 for a class in PC Building Basics. IdeaSpace is the place to go to learn how to use equipment to help you make your ideas a reality. This month, we're featuring the Sewing Machine Badge. If you've ever wanted to learn to sew, we'll teach you, and you can sign up to use our Janome machine for your projects.

We also support our community's current and future authors. On 6/3, we expect to have a crowd at Howell Branch for the Self-Publishing 101 Workshop.

Little ones will love the new Grow a Reader Kits that check out and encourage hands-on learning with games and other fun activities. We have a list of books perfect for rising readers. Check them out and sign up to come by your branch for PAWS for Reading time with Blue Gray Therapy Dogs. These pups are versatile and are also available for Time with a Therapy Dog sessions for teens and adults with disabilities, with their caregiver.

In the summertime, Mondays are for music with the Music on the Steps concert series. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library, these diverse groups will add the perfect note to your summer evenings.

The Friends help us in so many ways! Join the Friends and receive a special thank-you gift celebrating their 50 years of helping the library help our community.
