Our Thanks to those who donated during GivingTuesday!
A huge thank you to everyone who supported FOLAR during #GivingTuesday 2020. Together we can achieve the community vision of the 25-mile Appomattox River greenway and blueway, while ensuring the river remains a sustainable source of drinking water for our region.
Strengthening efforts to protect land along the Appomattox River
Through a grant partnership with the Virginia Environmental Endowment (VEE), FOLAR will begin to implement a regional land conservation program designed to secure additional funding and strengthen community stewardship while also increasing more equitable access to high quality green spaces for residents of the Tri-cities region. The grant from VEE will help fund staff support to further enable community outreach & education, landowner meetings, partner coordination, and fund development.
New Appomattox River Trail Section in Colonial Heights Opens
The Ribbon Cutting for the new section of the Appomattox River Trail in Colonial Heights was held. You can visit this section through easy parking lot access at Appamatuck Park at 151 Archer Ave. Heads-up, no signage yet. Watch for the parking entrance on the south side of the road. Branded Signage Connects Neighborhood to Trail
FOLAR will be working with the residents of Pocahontas Island in Petersburg to develop wayfinding signage for the Appomattox River Trail and Rotary Park. A vital component of trail accessibility is a well-developed signage system, ensuring that trails are available and welcoming to all. The work to create this neighborhood branded signage has been made possible through a grant partnership with the Virginia Tech-Petersburg Healthy Options Partnership (PHOPS) and the District 7600 Rotary Clubs.
