As you might already know, bookBgone has moved to permanent headquarters on Morris Avenue in Union, NJ. This office/storage space allows us to better serve those who no longer need books and those who wish to receive them.
Over the past year we literally picked up close to 2000 boxes of books -- which means almost 30 tons of books were redistributed instead of gathering dust on shelves or winding up in a landfill. We figure that's 100,000 books gaining a new life.
We have mailed or personally delivered books to programs and deserving individuals in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Florida, Texas, North Carolina, Kentucky, Oregon, Wisconsin, Michigan, Maine, California, Arkansas, Maryland, and Missouri.
We have matched needs between organizations
An Essex county non-profit received a large donation of gently used children's books that they could not distribute. They called us in and we were able to directly hand them over to a home visit program in nearby Passaic County.
Several NJ secondary schools gave us gently used books many of which we sent to a newly formed Detroit Charter School.
We are currently managing a match between elementary schools in Essex and Ocean Counties. The South Jersey school was extremely damaged by Hurricane Sandy. We were alerted to the specific need by a person who had recently given us books. We always appreciate these alerts.
If you have books to give to us, or know of an organization that could use some books -- tell us!
