Registration is live for attending Annual Conference in Seward.  It is important for you to read through the FACT SHEET before you register.  There are pieces of information that you will need in order to make choices on your registration.

TODAY, April 17, is the last day for Early Bird Registration.  General Registration begins tomorrow, April 18, and the price goes up to $60.
Lay & Clergy Sessions
New Information - The Lay & Clergy sessions will be held on Thursday evening, May 31st.  They will take place from 7-8:30 pm at Seward Memorial UMC.

If you are interested in submitting your name to be a candidate to the 2020 General Conference, please review these guidelines
and submit your Statement of Candidacy by April 17th.  Your statement will be included in the Pre-Conference Handbook.

If you would like to nominate someone for either the Outstanding Lay Person of the Year Award or the Harry Denman Evangelism Award, you have until May 1st to submit it.  There are a lot of deserving people out there so take time to nominate them!

The remaining hotel rooms have been released.  At this point, if you want to stay in some place other than a home stay, you will need to make your own housing arrangements.  The Assembly of God cabins are all full as well.

Just a reminder, all housing costs (if any) are the responsibility of the individual.  The conference only reimburses travel costs.

Visit to Spring Creek Correctional Center
On Thursday, May 31, clergy and lay have been invited to Spring Creek Correctional Center to hear about their work on Restorative Justice with inmates and victims.  If you are interested, please contact Rev. Jim Doepken directly and let him know.

Bishop Elaine JW Stanovsky is encouraging United Methodist clergy and laypersons across the Greater Northwest Area to attend worshipful 'Table Talk' conversations about human sexuality, and about the future of the Church we love.

Please watch the Bishop's invitation and share it with your local church! You can download a copy to use in worship and in other settings on the Greater Northwest Vimeo page.

  • May 12: First UMC, Fairbanks  9 am - 1 pm

For planning and logistics, we ask that you register if you intend to attend one of the Table Talks above.  A minimum of 10 people registered is required for a Table Talk event to happen.

AK Child & Family announces transition to new CEO
The Board of Directors of AK Child & Family is pleased to announce that it has chosen the agency's current Chief Clinical Officer, Anne Dennis-Choi, as the new President and Chief Executive Officer of AK Child & Family to succeed Denis McCarville, who is retiring to be closer to family in Omaha, Nebraska. Denis and Anne will work closely together for the next several months as Anne transitions into her new position as CEO, which she will assume on October 1, 2018.

Anchor Park Anchor Park UMC is looking to hire an Administrative Assistant to work 20-24 hours weekly.  You can find the job description here.  Please inquire directly with Anchor Park for questions.
Craft beads up for grabs
First UMC Ketchikan is cleaning out their church storage and have come across items from a day care they housed.  There are 8 buckets of beads and a dozen sorting cups/dispensers for them.  Pastor Evelyn is willing to bring them to Annual Conference if there is a church that could use them.  If you are interested, please contact Evelyn by email.

Judicial Council announces special session
The United Methodist Judicial Council has confirmed it will meet May 22-25 at the Hilton Orrington Hotel in Illinois to consider one or more petitions related to the special session of General Conference in February 2019. The request for the top court's May meeting came from the denomination's Council of Bishops.

Mission leader details agency priorities
The United Methodist Board of Global Ministries is taking a deep look at program performance and fiscal accountability. It also is strengthening its stand against global racism and sexual abuse, including within its large personnel network, said Thomas Kemper, the mission agency's top executive, during his report to the board of directors. Elliott Wright has the story.

UMCOR allocates $46 million for disaster recovery
UMCOR A new $46 million round of grants from the United Methodist Committee on Relief - including $16.8 million to the Methodist Church of Puerto Rico - will build upon the denomination's response to Hurricanes Maria, Irma and Harvey, as well as the California fires and flooding in Louisiana.

Planning for post-General Conference church
No matter what happens at the special General Conference next year, United Methodists will still have a mission to fulfill. That was a frequent refrain at the recent meeting of the Connectional Table, a church leadership body responsible for coordinating mission and ministry even during this time of uncertainty.
