2017 Annual Conference Reports
Once an Annual Conference is complete, a designated person sends in a report to United Methodist News Service.  Every single Annual Conference around the world does this, all 131 of them.  Once the reports are received, they compile them and post them online for everyone to view.  Here is the report that Rev. Jim Doepken sent in for the Alaska Conference.

Basic Lay Servant Course Offered Soon
The first step in becoming a Certified Lay Servant begins with a course that outlines some history and foundational principles of discipleship in the United Methodist Church. Over the course of 3 Saturdays we will also explore ways we may each be called to the mission of making disciples.

The course is scheduled for 3 Saturdays in July: 7/15, 22, and 29 from 9am until 4 pm. Classes will be held at the United Methodist Church of Chugiak; there will be a cost of $15 to cover the books and other class materials. If the cost is a hardship, there may be scholarship funds available to help with the fee.

Bring snacks or other food to share; tableware, soup, bread, and beverages will be provided. Contact Linda Haynes at
lindahaynes87@gmail.com or call her at 373-2795 if you would like to attend the course so that we will have enough materials (and soup!) for all. Hope you can join us.  You will be enriched and empowered by this course!
Holway Celebration of Life

Methodist Logo

Our conference Leadership Team is forming a small group of Alaskan United Methodists to craft our conference's feedback, convened by Rev. Nico Romeijn-Stout. If you are interested in participating in this small group please email him at nromeijnstout@gmail.com. Members of this group will be expected to read the full text of Wonder, Love, and Praise, as well as participate virtually in the small group study that accompanies it.
Results from Wespath's Work with Oil Giants
Wespath Benefits and Investments, the United Methodist pension agency, filed and actively supported successful shareholder resolutions asking the world's largest oil and gas companies for greater transparency on how they are preparing for a low-carbon future. Under these resolutions - which received overwhelming shareholder support - Chevron, Occidental Petroleum and ExxonMobil will provide detailed reports assessing the impact of climate change. Harvard Business Review said the ExxonMobil resolution, in particular, suggests the investment community has reached "a tipping point" in the recognition of climate risks.
