Job Opportunity
The Spiritual Life Minister position is open at AK Child & Family.  Here is a little bit of information about it:
Scheduling: part time position; Sundays 3pm to 8pm; Monday through various day to early evening; Wednesdays and Saturdays 1x per month
Rate of Pay : $15.13 to $16.53/hourly plus benefits
Qualifications: Bachelors Degree or 4 years of equivalent formal training in human services field including: Theology, Psychology, Social Work, etc. Should be a member of and in good standing with a recognized church, denomination, or local faith community. Must have at least 2 years working with youth in a community, residential, or clinical pastoral setting.

Anchorage First UMC Foundation Grant
The First United Methodist Church Foundation (Anchorage) is accepting applications for grants to be used for educational benefits, scholarships, outreach to the community and the world, and capital projects for the First United Methodist Church, Anchorage. Applications are available at the First United Methodist Church or click here Applications should be concise and fit within the one page application. Submissions must be received by 31 March, 2017 .

The First United Methodist Church Foundation was formed on January 13, 1991. It was formed from the First United Methodist Church Endowment which began in 1989. The purpose of the Foundation was to distribute dividend profits to various charity organizations. Grant request can be used for educational benefits, scholarships, out reach into the community and the world, and capital projects for the First United Methodist Church.

Since currently this is a relatively small fund, all grant requests received will be prioritized by the committee in accordance with the bylaws and selected by the majority members of the Fou
ndation. Selected grant approvals will be notified and receive their funds in a short period of time afterwards. Unfortunately not all grants can be approved, but as the fund grows, this Foundation will be able to help others.

'Hidden Figures' Mathematician Raised Methodist
United Methodists in White Sulphur Springs remember Katherine Coleman Goble Johnson - the main character in the movie "Hidden Figures" - counting steps as a child. Johnson grew up near and attended St. James Methodist, which was then an African-American church. West Virginia Conference communications director Deborah Coble reports.

Way Forward Group Has Membership Change
The three bishops who moderate the Commission on a Way Forward gave an update on the group's work and announced a change in commission membership. Bishop Ciriaco Francisco of the Philippines has withdrawn from the commission because of the demands on his schedule as leader of the Standing Committee on Central Conference Matters. Bishop Peter Torio, also of the Philippines, is succeeding Francisco on the commission.

Heritage Sunday
This year's theme is: "MILESTONES - Calling Local Churches to Discover and Celebrate Their History." The General Commission On Religion and Race's Lenten biblical reflection, Roll Down, Justice!, written by Faye Wilson and featuring the music and reflections of Mark A. Miller, poses the following questions:

  • What can you give in order to embrace anew the work of justice?
New Online Training Experiences Available
New online training courses are available for local church leaders and members. The two new courses complement existing online offerings, adding to a learning library that can assist trainees on a journey to boost church vitality.

The Effective Church Marketing course leads participants through a step-by-step process of examination, dreaming and planning using United Methodist Communications' Church Marketing Plan Tool. At the end of the session, church leaders or teams participating in the training will have a complete marketing plan ready to put into action.

The Your Church Website online training course introduces the tools to plan, build and launch a successful online strategy, from a website and beyond, that helps people connect with local churches in a new way.

UMW 3rd Annual Day of Giving - March 23
United Methodist Women will have their 3rd Annual Day of Giving on March 23, 2017.

The money received from A Day of Giving goes to The Legacy Fund, a permanent endowment fund, established to support the mission outreach of future generations of United Methodist Women.

The March 23 Day of Giving honors the women at Tremont Methodist Episcopal Church in Boston, Massachusetts that first organized for missions in 1869. The Woman's Foreign Missionary Society, a predecessor of United Methodist Women was established and women around the country raised money to send a doctor, Clara Swain, and a teacher, Isabella Thoburn, to India as missionaries to serve the women of that nation.
