WORKSHOPS
Thursday, June 1 the Alaska Conference will host two FREE workshops prior to the annual conference: Intentional Discipleship which will be led by Jeff Campbell from Discipleship Ministries and Financial Wellness & Clergy Benefits led by our own Conference Benefits Officer Bruce Galvin.  Workshops are open to the public.  Registration is required.  There will be a dinner offered between the two workshops for $10.  Please make sure you pay for your meal at the time of registering.
Intentional Discipleship
Intentional Discipleship is designed for making disciples in the 21st century.  This workshop covers the many facets for creating an intentional discipleship system including the "why" of discipleship and the understanding of "systems" thinking.

This workshop is being offered by Jeff Campbell of Discipleship Ministries

Financial Wellness & Clergy Benefits
The emphasis will be on financial wellness.  There will be a little primer on the defined benefit pension plans and the future funding of them.  At the end of the presentation, clergy benefit changes will be talked about.  If time allows, "Ask the CBO" will occur.

VOLUNTEER A BED/VEHICLE
Do you have an extra bed or two in your home and would you be willing to host a delegate or two during Annual Conference?  People drive up from the Kenai area or down from Fairbanks or fly in from off the road system to attend these meetings.  If you are able to help the conference out by offering up space or transportation, please contact the office at 333-5050 or alaskaumc@gmail.com and let us know!

Help Needed - What Does it Mean to Be the Church?

The United Methodist Church is currently crafting a new statement on our ecclesiology - what it means to be the church together. Church leaders are looking for your feedback on this new document, called " Wonder, Love, and Praise." You can click through on the link to find out more.

Our conference Leadership Team is forming a small group of Alaskan United Methodists to craft our conference's feedback, convened by Rev. Nico Romeijn-Stout. If you are interested in participating in this small group please email him at nromeijnstout@gmail.com. Members of this group will be expected to read the full text of Wonder, Love, and Praise, as well as participate virtually in the small group study that accompanies it.
Holway Celebration of Life
Dennis Holway
Those who knew and loved Dennis Holway are invited to join Susie, Todd, and Blake and their families at Birchwood Camp at the chapel on Psalm Lake at 4:00 PM on Saturday, June 17th.  There will be time to share memories, honor Dennis, and scatter his ashes.  Then everyone is invited to gather in the main lodge afterwards for food and ice cream - his favorite!

Peace With Justice LIVE Facebook Event

United Methodist Communications is planning a Facebook LIVE! event to talk about the impact and importance of Peace with Justice Sunday.  Get ready for June 7 as they turn on the cameras and talk to various church leaders and members across The United Methodist Church about plans for Peace with Justice Sunday.  Be sure to LIKE the United Methodist Communications Facebook page so you can watch!

Peace with Justice Sunday is on June 11. 
United Methodist Wins "The Voice"
Chris Blue, worship leader at Cokesbury United Methodist Church in Knoxville, was named winner of Season 12 of "The Voice" on the show's May 23 finale. Hundreds of fans filled the church for a watch party to cheer Blue on. Maggie Jones of the Knoxville News Sentinel reports.

Annual Conferences Will Vote on Constitutional Amendements
General Conference delegates had their say last year. Now, it's up to annual conference voters to determine whether five amendments will become part of The United Methodist Church's constitution. Read more of this United Methodist News Service story.
Study Guide to Help Church Discuss Sexuality
A new study guide, "The Unity of the Church and Human Sexuality: Toward a Faithful United Methodist Witness," has been released in support of the Commission on a Way Forward. The United Methodist Board of Higher Education and Ministry and the Association of United Methodist Theological Schools prepared the four-week guide to help the church hold conversations about sexuality.
