Message from the Associate Dean - BCH Oakland

January 2025

Happy 2025!

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. I wanted to alert you to a few key presentations. First, see the year in review video put out by the School of Medicine here.

Also, please join the UCSF Town Hall on Friday, January 10, 2025, from 12:00-1:00 pm, featuring Diane Sliwka (Chief Physician Experience Officer, UCSF Health), Josh Adler (Chief Clinical Officer, UCSF Health), Suresh Gunasekaran (President and CEO, UCSF Health), and Talmadge King (Dean, UCSF School of Medicine). Diane Sliwka will provide an overview of learnings from the 2024 Attending Physician and Provider Net Promoter Survey and discuss action planning. There will also be an opportunity for you to ask questions. The session will be recorded.

As you may have noticed, faculty now have their pager messages forwarded to Voalte. We have asked IT/Telecom to provide future updates, so stay tuned.

We are excited for 2025 and look forward to a great year of growth and recruitment!

Be well,

Kelley

Scientific Writing Course for the UCSF Community Available Online

Successfully securing funding and publishing scientific research are essential to the academic and career development of faculty, students, and researchers at UCSF. Critical elements to that success are developing effective writing skills and employing clear writing for an audience of peers in the sciences.

To help facilitate our community’s equitable access to publication and grant writing, UCSF affiliates can now access the online course Scientific Writing for UCSF Authors: Techniques for Clarity and Brevity on the Collaborative Learning Environment (CLE). This self-paced course is free to everyone with a UCSF email address.

Learn more about this asynchronous course on this UCSF Library News announcement.

Healthcare Careers Conference Recruitment

Seeking Healthcare Volunteers for the Feb 1st Healthcare Careers Conference in the Oakland Unified School District

On Saturday, February 1st from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm, Life Academy (walking distance from Fruitvale BART in Oakland) will be hosting its 7th annual Healthcare Careers conference for Oakland Unified School District high school students. Historically, this has been a fun and extremely educational event for students (and volunteers!) This opportunity will take place in person.

The goal is for students to learn about the incredible variety of healthcare professions, to meet and ask questions of healthcare providers (especially UIM and those who graduated from Oakland high schools!), and to learn a touch of hands-on clinical skills if possible. Providers will be divided by organized specialty with a goal of having many different careers represented in a single room (i.e. OB/GYN with a doula, midwife, OB RN, GYN MA, surgical tech, MD, NP, etc.).

Release of the UCSF Changemaker Series

The UCSF Changemaker Series, created by Professor of Medicine Hilary Seligman, MD, MAS, is a four-part video series that seeks to build the capacity of UCSF researchers to generate scientific evidence that is responsive to the needs of real-world decision-makers. Each 10-15 minute video highlights a UCSF researcher in conversation with an interdisciplinary panel of non-academic experts discussing how investigators at all stages of their careers can more meaningfully inform policies, systems, and structures in order to create social or policy change.
