The Power of Prayer

Our CARE Spotlight focus today is about the The Power of Prayer and answered prayer from the Sunday morning prayer pew at St. Michael’s.

The Red Bow on top of the car symbolizes that this car was not only a free gift of ministry from a loving, caring, Body of Christ at St. Michael’s, but affirms the letter “E” in our “C.A.R.E.” acronym above.

A Miracle – side story - The person that donated the car works for a car dealership and knew they used Big Red Bows to put on the cars when cars are purchased as a GIFT. The Red Bow was important. We had a dual ministry objective to show this car as a Gift…first, from God through answered prayer and as a Gift from the Body of Christ at St. Michael’s who God used to answer prayer. The person gifting the car had seen a Red Car Bow laying around somewhere at the dealership, but the dealership insisted that they looked everywhere, and a Red Bow could not be found – “You will have to wait until closer to the Christmas Holiday Season to get one”, the dealership said. The Red Bow was too important for the ministry message, so there was another plea for the dealership go back and look one more time. They reluctantly agreed - and to their amazement they found one. Praise be To God!

The C.A.R.E Message

There was a desperate cry for help and prayer from the prayer pew at St. Michael’s on a Sunday morning service over a month ago.  Due to the nature of the prayer request, the prayer ministers serving that morning suggested that it might be helpful to also complete a C.A.R.E Card that would go to the Congregational C.A.R.E. Task Force for additional prayer and support.  The CARE Card we received expressed that a single mother was in desperate need of a car in order to secure a new job, and to get her child to and from school, sports practices, etc. It had taken every penny she had (including the sale of her car) to afford her treatments and battle with a difficult and serious disease she was fighting. There was not just a future need for a car, but an immediate need for interim transportation. Money would not be available for weeks until her first paycheck with her new job. All seemed hopeless.

The details of HOW God answered this prayer over the course of several weeks, CARE believes is not that important. What is important for us to share through this testimony and story is that we have a very big God and a church parish full of loving people with a heart of Christ for CARE.  In all transparency, the prayer request seemed impossible considering the immediacy of the need and economic feasibility of the request.

As this story will testify, what seemed virtually impossible to us was not impossible to God.  God, through the power of the Holy Spirit, chose, directed, mobilized and orchestrated multiple people in the church through unexpected channels and offerings to meet every need of the prayer request and to ultimately deliver a car as requested. All praise, thanksgiving and glory to God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
